The exterior of a 12-storey hotel at Jasper Avenue and 96th Street in Edmonton has been largely completed. The $60 million CAD project includes 230 rooms under the Hyatt banner, which are expected to go into service by the end of 2015.

Developed by AUM Hotel Group, the Quarters Hotel features a distinct Dub Architects design. Jagged concrete floor plates have been covered by blue-tinted glass panels. At a cost of $12 million CAD, the glass installation exceeds the entire price tag attached to AUM's last hotel project.

The street level will include 11,000 square feet of retail below a meeting room that juts out over the sidewalk. A 30-foot outdoor fireplace may be added in the future for pedestrians seeking warmth from Edmonton's brutally cold winters. The Quarters' Districts are currently characterized by vacant buildings and parking lots. It is hoped the hotel will encourage other developers to invest in the neighbourhood. The City has already embarked on a revitalization of 96th Street which includes new lighting and coloured stone pavement. They are also seeking new developments similar to the Quarters Hotel to help spur activity in the area.
