Winter City

Social media staffer: "That crowd of whiners over at SkyriseCities is complaining about us again."

Tim Shipton: "Again? What is it this time?"

Staffer: "No skating in the Ice District this year. Remember we cut it because Mr. Katz said there was no money to be made."

Shipton: "Fine. Fine. I'll talk to facilities and we'll put it back for a month before it melts. Sigh. That should shut them up for a few weeks, at least until the renderings come out for Phase 2."

I guess Katz did find a way to make a dollar from skating:

Oh at least that's a bit better. Much of the earlier discussion was about the plaza rink, so I thought this was what the fee was for. Thanks for the clarification.

I was going to mention this before and I forgot, but did anyone go to ice castles this year? I went and was disappointed. $30 entry and $10 for a small hot chocolate? Despite hot chocolate was something like 20 bucks. It was a rip off in my opinion, plus I liked it much better when it was at Hawrelak Park.
I get they moved it to try and breathe some life into downtown, but it had no atmosphere. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

We passed on it due to price and a lack of atmosphere from what we saw as well. Seemed like more a cash grab than actual intent to create something of an experience and to pair it with more of a reason to go Downtown and stay awhile.

Don't blame the ice castle folks. Alot of the price is set by OEG as a condition of using the fan park. The City keeps pushing folks to the Ice District in order to access grants and then OEG sets a high price in exchange for the "privilege" of using their facility (aka empty lot).

Well there is an idea, in the future move it this location instead (of course hopefully after it is cleaned up some) and don't charge quite as much. It is a more central high profile location. It could be more popular.
