I think there should be a thread where we can discuss the warehouse district as a whole more specifically. I believe this area of the downtown is slowly becoming is own unique neighborhood. First of all the boundaries have always been quite clear, Jasper Ave to the south, 104 ave to the north, 105st to the east and 109st to the west. The anchor to the area is Norquest, It is about to have its own big park and residential is finally starting to establish within its boundaries.

I think this thread can touch upon a variety of issues specific to this part of the downtown.

One thing I've been thinking more and more about for this area for example. Should the entire district shift its focus to primarily pedestrian and transit mobility within its boundaries? 108st has definitely been given a road diet.107st due to the LRT and the warehouse park is almost non existant anymore, only 106st has is somewhat untouched. Especially with new residential hopefully coming to 106st could this street be primarily pedestrianized?

I certainly hope not. It's calmed and that's good, but we must focus on density and diversity of housing, retail and quality of experience.

It's absurd that for those of us who choose to live Downtown are 'expected' to deal with the level of disorder and number of issues we do on a daily basis and that MUST change.

Our Downtown is embarrassing right now and while improving and lots to get excited about, it underperforms and under delivers vis a vis.

well I think my thought is, for example, is to see all the empty lots along 106st to be filled with mixed use buildings 6+ storeys tall. Widened sidewalks, bike lane(s) and 1 lane each direction or just 1 lane for car traffic. Maybe calming is the wrong word. I want to see plenty of activity, except I want to see lots of pedestrians, bicycles and public transportation are the primary modes to move around, cars are allowed but are not the focus.

taken looking south from 104ave.
I envision a busy, vibrant street lined with buildings and destination that residents live above or near the area where it is safe and enjoyable to walk.

I don't think social disorder and busy traffic on the street are that closely connected, but with the LRT going on 102 Ave I suspect there will be less through traffic on 106 Street and the remaining traffic will be slower.
