I think the LRT’s priority is to serve the bus network.and passengers. I do hope the some kind of pedestrian access (like Bonnie Doon) can be built.

A while ago I was talking with someone who used to work for the city's LRT delivery team, and he told me that WEM's owners originally planned to build something right by the station, replacing the parking currently separating the LRT from the mall. But not only was that pre-covid, it was also pre-Trudeau, when the feds and the province were telling the city that there wouldn't be any more funding for LRT extensions coming down the pipeline, and the city was pretty much expecting that the VLW wouldn't get built for another two or three decades. Who knows if the mall owners would be willing to speed up their timeline by 20-something years when they're already in a huge load of debt from the American Dream mall fiasco.

They should build a new world-record pyramid for a Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World 🤩

While I agree in principle, I look at Southgate mall, not having a direct pedway from the station at least keeps the homeless outside the mall so I can shop or browse in peace
It's security presence, not the lack of LRT connection, that does that. It's not some 50 meters (less in the case of southgate) that will stop a homeless person from going into the mall. Also, cities with much higher levels of social disorder than Edmonton manage to have their transit directly connected to malls and other buildings, without having any issues, so this is also a very poor excuse.

APTA ridership report is released for Q2 2025, more growth for light rail ridership which one would assume is most boosted by growth on the (still new) Valley Line. Interesting that the vast majority of total ridership growth is on light rail rather than bus.

Light Rail did replace the bus service from MWTC to downtown so it kind of makes sense
