Valley Line LRT | TransEd/Marigold | City of Edmonton

I have to admit significant disappointment at the "whatever" responses to this mess.

Since when is it acceptable to make a RAIL RIGHT-OF-WAY look like the aftermath resulting from a dinosaur that just ate at Taco Bell?
It’s February. We’re not even a week into the first major melt of the year. The entire city is a complete, muddy, sand-logged, disgusting mess. And yet there’s some wild expectation that not only the ROW be pristine, dry and free of garbage, but the end of the line where they’ve been piling snow and gravel for the last 3 months?

Nope, not reasonable, but more that it was intended to capture a time/place and for us to talk about how to improve things, even in late Feb.

Yet again proving the point often made that Edmonton can build nice things (although sometimes agonizingly slow), but can't seem to maintain them.

based on this picture it looks like the trains might connect differently than the bombardier. It would be a sleeker look?

Unless the back of this train isn’t finished.

Assuming you're talking about the coupler, correct, they are indeed different between the Bombardier cars and the Rotem cars. I presume some sort of adapter can be used for emergency situations, but mechanically and electrically the couplers won't be compatible.
The Bombardier cars use a pretty primitive coupler. While fully capable, the particular coupler they use is usually used as an emergency coupler, and near as I can tell, someone has to physically install an electrical connection between cars. The couplers on the Rotem cars will allow fully automatic coupling and uncoupling, like our high floor LRV's.
I figure the coupler on the BBD cars is simply a result of the P3 and choosing a cheaper option to save a few dollars since they could.

From the latest ETSAB meeting. Honestly, it's surprising the City is still committed to SL8 (alternating 2-car trains); I fully expected them to dial back to SL1 (all 1-car trains) as a cost-cutting measure.

As a refresher: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/city-council-covid-19-1.5975960

107ave will need to carry a lot of the load the next 4 years between Wellington Bridge, SPR/LRT, and imagine jasper ave.

Except 107 Ave itself is also undergoing revitalisation at the same time...
