Misc. Transportation Projects

LRT sure isn’t cheap, but it might be money well spent given the return on real estate.

Even though the 401 freeway has the highest daily traffic volumes in North America (more than 400,000 vehicles at it's busiest stretch in the GTA, it still doesn't equal the daily usage of Line 1 transit in Toronto (Yonge - University) which has daily averages of 625,000 riders and 2.5 min frequencies (and not many parking spaces required when people get to their destination).
Moving vehicles will always be the most expensive and least space efficient option.

Unpopular opinion is to shift funding towards the airport connection asap tbh. That bridge over the rail yards is going to cost a fortune, and might pay for an airport connection entirely.

Apparently $20 milllion was allocated in the 2023-26 budget to purchase land for the metro project north of Yellowhead Trail. I wonder if all that was spent and where things are at in terms of land acquisition for this northwest expansion.

I received this from Coun. Rutherford in 2022 but recently heard her say any new lrt projects are many years away as city doesn't have the money.

"...as part of the 2023-2026 Capital Budget, City Council approved $20 million for land acquisition for Phase 2 of the Metro Line Northwest extension from Blatchford to Castle Downs. Work has commenced and...the City has negotiated the acquisition of its first property. Aside from land acquisition, no additional funding has been allocated to undertake further design or procurement readiness work."
