If Chick-fil-a eventually decides to open in the ICE District, what are the chances they'll choose a spot that's not in the Stantec Tower food court? There's the empty restaurant space in Stantec Tower, or in the Connect Centre near the Banquet, or a couple of empty spots in the COE Tower.

Yeah, my hunch is that it could be a precursor to a location maybe? They have some downtown ones in Toronto.

They are 100% testing things out there; I spoke with a guy in a dress shirt (owner?manager?) who said the company's head of real estate was to be dropping by to observe...

Put it in the Stantec Tower facing the ICE plaza and add in a full service place next door in the former Rexall space.

Dave’s looks packed on 109th street consistently. Hopefully gives other large chains some confidence.

People can hate on chickfila or American chains, but the reality for new developments like Ice District is that large corporations are the only ones who can afford the rent. I’d rather any successful business than an empty storefront.

I would never darken the doors of a Chick-Fil-A (staying closed on the Lord's Day is so 19th century) but if they want to open in the ICE District then I would rather have that instead of another bank.

If they get a spot facing outside that would be even better IM0 for the building, the area and probably them too, although I really would like to see some other things in the food court too.

I'll ask about it and report back if I hear anything. Most of the people on my floor are owners.

That's what I've heard as well. From what I understand, sales were really poor- only around 20% of the units were sold (that’s just what I’ve heard, I don’t have the exact sales figures), and as a result the developer decided to buy back the sold units and convert the building into full rental.

All the owners were given a few options:

• Sell their unit back to the developer (this is the starting point for everyone).
• After selling back, owners could choose between:
  • Purchasing a comparable unit in Legends at a reduced rate if they want to continue owning.
  • Leasing back their unit at a reduced rental rate if they prefer to stay without buying another property.
  • Taking the cash buyout and walking away altogether.

It sounds like most owners have already accepted one of these offers, and the developer is now wrapping up the final legal steps to terminate the condo corporation.

I find it it is so surreal to go to this food court or food hall area around lunch time and see a lot of people sitting around the tables. The only thing missing are are any food vendors.

It has been like this for the last year or two and seems to be getting busier. I wonder when someone will realize the opportunity here and something will finally happen. I am surprised it hasn't happened already.

Last 1 or 2 years? I'd say it's been this way for much longer than that.

The Standard Life food court at Jasper Ave/104 St has been dead and vacant since COVID.

ATB Place food court has been mostly dead except for about 2 stalls, also due to COVID. It likely doesn't help matters that they insist on locking the lower level south entrance.

Haven't been to Canada Place since 2018, but I do remember that their food court was almost dead.
