Years ago I received a tour of a full floor penthouse in the JW that (at the time) was being built for Katz. There was a private elevator but this was pre-install so I have no idea if it was only for his suite or simply a penthouse elevator.

Just to clear up a few things - the penthouse does not have a private elevator. Yes Katz was originally going to build it out for family use (not specifically for his son). They did not keep the floor due to multiple reasons (including the fact they have a home in town).

The Stampede Grounds are fenced and it costs $18 for parking to see an event there so if the new arena and entertainment district is inside of the fencing, it won't be a place to drop over to have a beer at.

Scotia (Bank) Place in Calgary was released today. They sunk the lower bowl to put the main concourse at grade.

Winnipeg’s Canada Life Centre has a sunken lower bowl and has a much more urban and transparent street presence as a result.

The new arena will not be inside the Stampede grounds. The arena is north of the Saddledome and technically outside of the paid area. People can enter the grounds and pay for parking if they wish, but the arena itself is not inside the grounds. Payment is not required to visit any of the three restaurants, food hall, or team store that will be on ground level.

Thanks. That's good to know that the fencing is coming down. Last time I visited the Stampede grounds for the golf show, it cost more to park there than it cost for a ticket to the show. That being said, many restaurant patrons don't have the disposable income to be dolling out an additional $18 to park every time they eat out and will go elsewhere.

Rogers Place is hosting a PWHL game on February 16, featuring the Toronto Sceptres vs the Ottawa Charge.

EDMONTON, AB (Nov. 20, 2024) – The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) today announced that Rogers Place in Edmonton will host one of the nine neutral-site regular-season games in the PWHL Takeover Tour™, marking the final location to be revealed.

Nine neutral site games including two other Canadian cities; Vancouver and Quebec City (hmmm, no Calgary).
I wonder if this a bit of a test run to see what other markets could be included in any potential expansion of the league.
Tickets went on sale yesterday. I just had a look on Ticketmaster and sales look like they are going very well.

I wonder if Katz Group is going to propose an office space for ATCO in Edmonton -- seems like it could be a more substantial building than what was offered to CWB, maybe back up to 42 storeys (overall). That would be a solid location.
Is there some scuttlebutt blowing around or was your post based on some actual intel?

'O mentioned that there is an RFP for Atco Rental Space... if that is the case then the question is would Katz Group respond to the RFP if it was substantial enough to build the tower+ that they had panned for CWB. If it is only for 175,000 sq.ft. then I would guess probably not but if it is for Atco's current space plus the pipeline crew -- maybe 575,000 sq.ft. then I could see Katz Group jumping in. They "won" the RFP for CWB based on speed with which the tower could be built (foundation and parking already in place, only the tower super=structure needed) and with location as part of the ICE District space. 575,000 square feet at 25,000 net per floor would constitute an office tower of 23 floors and with an additional 50% for expansion that could be subleased as class A office space to Atco affiliates the tower could be over 35 floors (maybe back to its allowed for 42 storeys(including podium) with a little bit of a "chance" build-out). As much as this is pure speculation (I did say "I wonder") time and additional info will tell.
