Do a lot of clients really go to their corporate HQ, tho? It's understanding that the Servus HQ is in the suburbs because many of their clients are rural folks who would be uncomfortable in a downtown office tower. @IanO would have better insight since he brokered the deal with Servus to move into the office space that was previously occupied by Dell.
It's still a net positive, but I would still love if they moved DT.Before you start ganging up on poor old @IanO for betraying his urbanist ideals, just remember that the HQ is still in Edmonton and not in a bedroom community like Sherwood Park or St. Albert.

Good points, I understand the image they want to maintain and I would rather have a suburban HQ than none. However in a city our size (and growing) more of a central presence also makes sense for a growing organizationHaha, I certainly did not broker any deal for that.
I did however work on the project for ~2yrs and helped the building with being 'reimagined' from a pretty crap Dell call centre into a LEED Certified corporate centre that many of us on 'the team' are still proud of to this day.
From what I know, when the 3 credit unions merged, they made it very clear that they were not wanting to be like the big 4 and were not a Downtown corporate bank.
He wanted the previous team, the owner wouldn't sell and Katz wouldn't let them play in his shiny new arena if he didn't own them.Funny this now considering Katz let the previous team walk to Saskatoon…..maybe now he realizes the value in a low cost team/League…..
Here is AI's take:Lacrosse is one of those sleeper sports -- hasn't drawn well in terms of fan support on the big-field, outdoors game; I believe it would be much more exciting as a more intense game in an indoor arena (more comfortable for fans as well). A couple of things that bode well for an Edmonton franchise: 1. an immediate built-in rivalry with the Calgary Roughnecks (but please don't pick an oil-related name for the team), 2. a roughly equal Canadian/American team presence with a potential for divisional rivalry, 3. with similar rules to hockey in terms of onside play, goalie presence, number of field players and speed of ball movement (compared to puck movement), 4. A well-established arena sports infrastructure in terms of administration. With 9 home games in the regular season and a couple more pre-season games plus post-season play I could see an average season having maybe 15 local events, easily squeezed into the Rogers Arena schedule. With a regular season beginning in late fall, it would also provide an excellent go-along to the hockey season. Edmonton Freeze, Edmonton Wolverines, Edmonton Capitals ... let's build some fan momentum here starting with team name ideas.
