Hmm, never thought of Tiffany's, Gucci, Balanciaga, etc to be "supposed luxury". but that's just me. I shop at Mark's workwear house.
Agreed. People who have real money avoid labels and names and don’t “show off”…As I understand it, there are people who have money and look for labels or names to show off, but who are not always as well off as they try to appear.
Then there are people who are well off, not looking to show off and are looking more for quality not names.

So the super rich old money types drive a camry?Agreed. People who have real money avoid labels and names and don’t “show off”…
Why is there a strong negative association with someone who chooses to spend their money on designer clothes? How people spend their money, as long as its legal, is their business. I have never looked negatively at someone who I noticed wearing Lacoste - why would I?The negative associations that go along with Gucci, LV, YSL, Burberry (with few exceptions), Lacoste, and virtually anything that isn't modest, are all strong.
And yes, alot of very rich people drive Toyota family/Honda family vehicles.

Depends on the brand and product. A loud LV belt is absolutely being worn to signal "I spent $500+ on this", their bags probably fall into the same category. Why is there a strong negative association with someone who chooses to spend their money on designer clothes? I can't believe people get triggered now by what other clothing brands people buy. I guess its just another example of identity politics - some people choose to spend their legally made money on designer clothes or hand bags - this apparently is "bad and wrong" and they are greedy obscene low character people. Some people choose to spend their legally made money on donating to the NDP - this apparently is "good and virtuous" and they are righteous community minded folks.Depends on the brand and product. The low quality compared to other brands without the billboard plastered on it is also a gripe of mine, but I vote with my wallet.
As far as a jealousy thing? I'm not getting jealous over someone wearing an ugly jacket or belt, but I don't really see the purpose of these items outside of making someone in your peer group jealous.
People can buy whatever they want, and I'd welcome more retail for people downtown, but I'd hesitate to call the expensive retailers in the mall "luxury". I just think these are brands that cater to people attempting to wealth signal.
I certainly do not have that level of spending power, but could never envision of dropping 10 or 20k on items in a place like WEM; sorry, can't.
Most folks I know who buy those products do so on trips to Van, Toronto or Paris, not here given their relatively small selections and overall 'experience' (see above).
I expected this again, so much for coming in 2024 or 2023.it's now 2025 but Ace still isn't open. However, I did see construction workers coming and going thru the door next to their pop-up booth.
