Do you know if the northeast podium is the for 16 storey or 21 storey tower? Or is it the standalone retail/childcare building?Looks like the first phase of this to start construction once permits clear is the 3-level underground parkade along the northern half of the site and the northeast podium building, followed by the 19 storey tower at the northwest corner of the site.

Correct, the podium building constructed first will not have a tower. The next building after that will be the 19 storey tower at the NW corner of the site.^^^^ no tower
I see the website says 2022 and $80m https://majorprojects.alberta.ca/details/The-Hat-at-Old-Strathcona/4326Hmmmmm….noticed on AB Major Projects site that they now have moved this one from “Proposed” to “Commencing in 2021 worth 70M.”

Better to have boots on the ground from the residents of the immediate area who will shop and influence what types of businesses are needed and can succeed. Density is the key driver to achieve that.As much as some people don’t love the taller towers in this area, it’ll be key to the retail surviving. Either we have density or we have parking. Stores need one of those to survive. Much prefer density.
