Project Update - Spring 2025

Construction of Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre continues. The project is on time and on budget. All major interior and exterior building construction is complete.

Some minor construction work remains, including the connection to and integration of the Peter Hemingway Aquatic Centre.

The cycling track has been installed and some minor track railing modifications are being completed. The verification and testing of all building systems is nearing completion, as cleaning and minor installations continue across the facility.

Landscaping work has resumed and is anticipated to be completed in summer 2025.

Once construction is complete the facility will be prepared for the public. Preparations will take several months and will include installation of equipment, fixtures and furniture.

During this time, the facility will be assessed for a Category 2 facility standard designation from the Union Cycliste Internationale (the world cycling governing body).

Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre is anticipated to open in early 2026. Peter Hemingway Aquatic Centre, which is being rehabilitated, will reopen alongside Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre as one integrated facility.

Look at all those bike racks! 🤩

drove around the park today and the roads and parking lots are absolute crap (apart from the brand new parking lot pictured above); had to keep my speed down to a walk. Hope the city fixes that soon.

The user's group are now controlling access to the track. Showing off to potential sponsors. Word is our Olympians may have test road the track.

There is a committee to get the junior track national. A major come wealth cycling power is also I talks about using the facility prior to the LA Olympics.

What I don't get though is that for a facility such as this, why not make these exceptional? A more secure, covered space with some design?
They're immediately outside the main entrance to the facility, seems quite secure to me. Covered spaces? Sure, that would be ideal, but as someone that cycles daily, not a deal-breaker for me. If it's raining or snowing, I'll be out in that regardless of whether my bike is covered or not when it's parked.

Agreed. Would love to see city facilities all start to include basic bike storage that’s inside/secured to some degree. Literally just an interior room with a door and cameras would significantly reduce theft vs racks outside.

I hope there are plans in place for retrofitting all existing LRT stations… we are light years behind Vancouver there. Davies was a massive swing and a miss for that.

Then a bike parking garage in Churchill and a space near ice district would be great too.
