Oliver is definitely one of Edmonton's nicest neighbourhoods with nearby access to so many great amenities and focal points of the city. Surprising that more townhomes - something like the current project in Rossdale - didn't materialize.
This project is turning out pretty good.
I was in Vancouver this past weekend and spent time walking through many of the west end streets - lots of density but mostly 3 and 4 storey buildings, with some up to 10 storeys. As someone walking around, I really prefer that scale compared to high rises rises. Oliver (north of Jasper between 110 and 123 streets) reminds me of this area except that virtually all our 3 and 4 storey apartments lack character and diversity - they all look so similar and boxy and uninspiring. Given this location and proximity to downtown, 124 st, Jasper Ave and river valley, I wonder why there wasn't more of a mix of some quality properties. Our streets running north/south are also a lot wider which takes away some of the charm and neighbourhood feel of the area - thankfully we have trees even though the landscaping on most properties is lacking.
Here are some pics of just some diversity - it's not that they are all gems, but they are all different and unique.
