^i'm old enough to remember when The Mac was boarded up. that generation didn't care if this hotel burned to the ground or not ! i'm glad it was renovated years ago so my wife and I could enjoy a room there on our honeymoon. i don't feel that having a high rise next to this historic hotel is a big deal as long as The Mac is still here to be enjoyed by this generation and generations to come given that so many other historical buildings were torn down.

Haven't heard anymore. And no, the X Tower site is just north of the Mac, where the park is on Jasper Ave. The linked proposal is east of the Mac.

I wouldn't be disappointed if it was. But i will say, the "X Tower" looked better and had a lot more character which would have given our downtown some much needed diversity as far as shape and design goes.

^ya agreed! our buildings are starting to suffer from sameness. it's what happens when you use the same guys over and over to design these buildings i suppose?

I dunno. I think the new tower looks decent, and it would be great of they could do something cool with the design of the south side, like adding in Neon or LEDS along the edge or maybe adding in some interesting shapes!
