yes and not just talking patios either. Opening a new restaurant or bar should be facilitated by the city, but it often seems like they make it unnecessarily difficult. But to be clear, I don't think this is a problem that is unique to Edmonton.

I'm far more worried about the speed of permitting than the cost. $3,700 may sound like a ton but for a business like the Common it isn't make or break, I would argue (open to being corrected though). I agree with the sentiment that if you make patio space free (or virtually free) you just end...

What’s wrong with train noise? I find it soothing. Surely not everyone’s cup of tea but far better than road noise

Oh it's quite accurate. If you don't have Indigenous folks at the table from day 1 (in a meaningful way) for a project in a part of the city as rich in Indigenous history as this area is, your project will fail. EllisDon learned the hard way.

I'm as frustrated as anyone that the gondola didn't happen, but let's not misplace blame here. EllisDon failed miserably in consulting appropriately, given the importance of the area to Indigenous people. I believe that some wonderful things are possible here but it has to be done the right way...

The CoE should be thinking about pedestrian realm improvements in the area soon. Add some nice streetscaping, some trees and this area could be amazing in the not so distant future. And still room for more (higher quality) developments as well.

Paramount and Princess Theatres - Opportunities + Ideas

Sorry Ken, not sure I'm with you on this one. Keeping this beauty protected from the elements should be a pretty minor expectation. I don't know the full story behind the current ownership and if your assertion that without them this building would have already been torn down a long time ago is...

I actually l kinda like this; would be better in brick for sure but I don't mind the current version either. Reminds me a little bit of the Army & Navy building on 97st.
