I lived in Dublin for a couple of years. Same system as Edmonton and cars were always banging into the Luas trains. Cars hit cars, cars hit pedestrians and cyclists, trucks hit cars and other trucks - we don't put crossing gates up for all of those interactions as they become the norm 😭

Maybe they lengthened it with this refurb? Says 50m on the City website. Would make no sense to spend all that money and not add 500mm?

Yeah, not sure what happened with that contract. If it couldn't be completed by the original contractor I don't know why the City didn't use the money to tender it and have a different contractor complete it. Strange one.

Ah, yes, from the photo it looks like concrete. I'm assuming the concrete is there because it's a bus stop location and needs the better base. One lift of asphalt to go on top of the concrete and up flush with the curb and gutter. My best guess.

One lift of asphalt for a year or two - lets any settlement show - then top lift of asphalt levels out any of that minor settlement. Or they might do top lift over the whole width of the road this year, after they have finished bottom lift on the south side.
