    Edmonton Oilers

The Ducks are in the playoffs because of how bad the Pacific division is. The Oilers record wasn’t a whole lot better but it’s because they were coasting all season waiting for the playoffs to start. Oilers in 5.

I agree the downtown is improving, but it's doing it at a snail's pace. All other major cities in Canada are seeing improvements to their downtowns, but doing it faster. I visited Ottawa, another city of similar size and their downtown and inner city in general has also left us in the dust. I...

    Edmonton Oilers

They only needed a point in one of the three games, and that's if Nashville or LA didn't lose any games. In that scenario it should be easy. Now that they're officially in, it's now time to wait around until the real season starts.

IMO, vibrancy is really the only important factor. You walk around downtown Calgary or beltline and there's people everywhere, businesses everywhere and construction everywhere. It has triple the vibrancy Edmonton's downtown has, I would happily take Calgary's 27% vacancy, if it meant having...

I'm really liking the way this is turning out. By chance any interior photos?

Nice to see this finally under construction and above grade. I used to pass by the empty lot every day.

We were further ahead with our rebuild when the new arena opened than the flames will be when their arena opens. We had 4 first overall picks in a 5 year span with one of those being a generational player. I don't believe the Flames will get those levels of picks, I would give them at least 5...

    Edmonton Oilers

I don't want to jinx anything, but I'm very confident the Oilers will easily make the playoffs. They've shown they can step it up when the need to. That and let's face it the Pacific division doesn't have any standouts. Vegas beat us the other day, but they don't have it going on this year...

    Downtown

You could very well be right. I’m basing my tempered predictions on international immigration dropping sharply, and nothing more, so the numbers could be higher than expected. Also I recall quite a few units built from 2015-2021, but conversely downtown dropped in population. I guess I’m on the...

    Downtown

My guess is downtown will be between 17,000-18,000 by 2030. 1.58 people per unit is high and a lot of development permits don’t go anywhere. If Canada’s immigration numbers had stayed high, I could see 20,000 being a possibility, but I don’t see it to be honest.

Understood, and agreed. I don’t necessarily believe Knoblauch is at fault, but sometimes a coaching change is a good way to hit the reset button. The current GM is still fairly new but doesn’t escape all of the blame. He’s had a couple years to bolster the team, but today we’re no further ahead...

    Edmonton Oilers

McDavid‘s comments seem like a poor choice of timing, being that things are so tight down the stretch run, but I suspect this is all geared towards next season. I agree with others that there will be a coaching change this summer. I don’t know that it’s all Knoblauch’s fault, but either way a...

Thanks, that makes sense. It always comes down to dollars and cents. With Edmonton’s high population growth I would have expected a high rise boom like Calgary and Ottawa have been having.

This is major gut check time for sure. Maybe this will light a fire under the team.

    Edmonton Oilers

This is gut check time. If I’m being a glass half full kind of guy, I would look at it as a good test for Drai and he’ll be well rested going into the playoffs. If I’m being a glass half empty guy, I’m a bit worried about making the playoffs.

There’s so many of these 6 floor wood frames going up in the downtown. Anyone have any idea what happened to concrete high rises? We used to build them once upon a time.

7 storeys, so at least it’ll be concrete. If going concrete, they should have at least added a few more floors.

It’s a cool retro building, I hope they don’t ruin it.

After beating the Vegas and the Avs I thought maybe we were back in business, and then the wheels falls off again. 🙁 Wer’re up 2-0 on the Preds, so there’s that.

Exactly. Nice to see some action on the high rise front. I almost forgot what a high-rise was. Lol.
