    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

Give it some time and I'm optimistic frequencies on YEG-KEF will rise.

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

You sure? I know Porter's expansion from Vancouver is pretty long rumoured, but I can't find any press release about this. You could be confusing it with YHU-YEG which was announced on Tuesday and also begins mid-June.

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

Once again the "Edmonton International Airport" thread has become the "I hate the Calgary International Airport" thread.

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

Porter and Air Canada have bases and onward connections from YUL (and now YHU) to help capture traffic. Westjet does not. Porter and Air Canada (notably AC) have better brand loyalty in Quebec than Westjet does.

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

Porter and the Montreal Metropolitan Airport (formerly St. Hubert) had a bit of an announcement today regarding the routes PD will be starting from YHU this summer. Included 7x weekly YHU-YEG. They begin on June 16th.

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

It occurred at LaGuardia (LGA) not London Gatwick (LGW). Regardless, this is tragic. I hope the FAA (and the administration controlling them) can really get their act together. There was only one controller working both the ground and tower at the time of the accident.

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

Edmonton has a smaller/less busy airport which is further away from the city, but is also closer to CFB Cold Lake where the CF-18s (and eventually F-35s) are based. It is the objectively better location for the tanker base on paper. That being said, if this rumour is true, I wouldn't be...

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

I think the key is that to boost Edmonton's tourism a substantial amount, the Edmonton-Jasper rail link would have to be high speed, or else it doesn't really pose an advantage. For international tourists looking to go to the rockies, most would opt to fly into Calgary and take a 1.5h train to...

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

I think you completely missed what he was saying. Yes similar load factors, but the important part is one route has a larger volume of seats which brings down prices. It's not that YYC-YYZ is "more empty" or "less profitable".

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

The A321XLR's introduction globally could be a quite beneficial for Edmonton as airlines such as Aer Lingus have been starting to target more secondary American cities with the jets and it would be a no-brainer (in my opinion) to do the same with some secondary Canadian airports like YEG or YOW...

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

It's exactly that. Inevitably when two cities of relatively similar size are right next door, both are not going to have equal levels of service. One will come out on top. Unfortunate for us, Calgary outperformed us in the "qualifications" and it's probably stuck for life that YYC will be bigger...

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

I have never seen an airline route where they have not published/hidden the fact that it was subsidized. Anyone who tells you some random route "only exists because of subsidies" with zero reporting or evidence surrounding the claim is likely lying out of their ass. Some examples of subsidized...

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

It's polling at less than 30%. I think it's best we don't speculate about things which don't have a chance at actually happening.

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

People have been accusing her of that. There's no indication it actually happened. I'm no Smith fan either but it's just a baseless excuse.

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

This is the self victimization I mentioned earlier - it seems to be about the fact that Calgary is doing well more so than the fact that Edmonton isn't. YYC is a newer hub but it's no more artificial than the others. Westjet picked a city that didn't have crazy market dominance by Air Canada...

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

Another MOU? I don't doubt there were some talks in private with Etihad and the Alberta Government but nowhere have they advertised an MOU being signed. Launching this was a sovereign decision from EY.... and an on character one for them too, given they've been targeting more "secondary" markets...

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

I know it's easy to feel victimized with US cancellations but the reality is it's happening everywhere, including Calgary..... The most recent schedule change saw 1 route suspension and 6 frequency reductions from Edmonton, but 2 suspensions and 15 frequency reductions from Calgary...

Hub and spoke airlines doing hub and spoke things.

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

It was a total joke, never had a shot at ever happening. The first time I saw it, I thought it actually was a joke. Just a big PR move. YEG can definitely sustain a few weekly flights to Japan, but to Kumamoto? Not at all. From the Kumamoto end, a flight to Edmonton before any major North...
