    General Food & Dining Thread

Lauren Kyle McDavid is opening Bar Trove at Canada Permanent Building (10126 100 St NW) this spring. Hopefully signalling 1. Growing confidence in Edmonton's downtown, and 2. The McDavid's are here to stay.

    Stollery Children's Hospital

My sister and I were born at Edmonton General in early-mid 80s while my brother was born in the newly opened Grey Nuns hospital in 88. I imagine they moved acute care from Edmonton General to Grey Nuns that year.

Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

This is an ok temporary solution to prevent cars from entering the bike lane. Easily removeable to allow clearing equipment to do their thing. Passed 4 cyclists on my 15 minute commute yesterday.

    High Pointe Claireview

Progress photos. Looks like at least 500 residential units. Interesting they’re going with steel with one of the developments. Looking from Clareview Station: Looking from 144 Ave: I think the northwest and southwest lots are designated for commercial but the southwest lot (adjacent to...

    Metro Line LRT | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

Just trying to continue the conversation from the Valley Line thread... St. Albert Trail would be NE Capital Line 2.0 and not really benefit Edmontonians, although when it comes time to extend Caste Downs to Naki, St. Albert Trail could be an alternative. 113 A St is the best of the planned...

Valley Line LRT | TransEd/Marigold | City of Edmonton

I'm just appreciative that half of the Valley Line is built and the other half is getting built. We hit 11,000+ passengers per weekday. I'm hopeful the steady growth continues into next year.

    LRT Expansion Planning

It's not terrible and Metro Line will probably not see the need for better than 5 minute frequencies in our lifetime. I think the main issue is that they allowed 106 St to continue to exist as is despite the fact traffic volumes barely even support it being one lane in each direction and traffic...

Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

Today's my last day at the office for the rest of the year and I haven't been on my bike since Monday, so hopefully they at least clear the neighbourhood so I can get some pleasure rides in. My calorie burn rate is way down and calorie intake has been way up. Cycling numbers were reasonably...

    LRT Expansion Planning

I very much agree with both. Especially with badly needed frequency increases to the south. I cross 82 St and 112 Ave lots and never had any issue there. I think we're at least 30 years away until we hit capacity at 5 minute frequencies on the NE leg, contingent on Gorman and Horse Hills...

    Stollery Children's Hospital

I've worked on dozens of projects mostly with Interior Health but also Fraser Health and Island Health and they were all my favourite clients. They were more interested in the most qualified consultants and contractors rather than strictly the fee, they gave us almost all the information we...

    Stollery Children's Hospital

Good grief, they keep on calling for donors but are doing nothing to make it convenient. They haven't done a downtown mobile clinic since before COVID. They don't value donor's time. It's like an hour travel time at their current location and at least an hour at the clinic. Now they want to move...

    Car-Free Streets

I had a car coming straight at me on the 102 Ave bike lanes this morning.

The Edmonton Method - Snow Removal

I've been finding some roads preferrable. Would you like to be the keeper of the snow clearing map for the south side? 😁 I haven't finished populating the map yet but I'm hoping this will help people...

The Edmonton Method - Snow Removal

Edmonton came out strong with the snow clearing this year as if the snow levels would be the same as what we've experienced the last few years and unfortunately we're just being pummelled with snow event after snow event. It's been a frustrating winter biking experience so far but the city is...

The Edmonton Method - Snow Removal

I think that's ~11,000 lane-km of roads in Edmonton vs. 5,600 km of roads. https://pub-edmonton.escribemeetings.com/filestream.ashx?DocumentId=73869 But looking at this...

    Metro Line LRT | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

I had Metro Line to Castledowns pegged for 2040, not 2070. Sigh.

    Car-Free Streets

Yes thanks for sharing. Easily at least half the rides. We could add do not enter signs to prevent traffic from going westbound on 102 Ave but do we need diagonal directional arrows on either side of the road lanes to tell drivers where to go eastbound? Do not enter signs with bicycles...

    LRT Safety

I took the C-Train in Calgary a couple of Saturday nights ago with my 1 year old to grab dinner because we were at the Holiday Inn right across the street from Banff Trail Station. Other than a couple of drunk potty mouth dudes, the train was well utilized in both direction and it felt safe.

    So revenue service likely 2030.

Valley Line LRT | TransEd/Marigold | City of Edmonton

Looks great. Makes me wonder what percentage of the construction budget is going towards street realm improvements. Even in the SE, they could've saved money not completely redoing 66 St and 75 St by sticking the tracks on the wide boulevard/median and only improving where the train interfaces...
