    ICE District Phase 2 | 149.95m | ?s | ICE District Prop.

While I don't like big roads either, downtowns need arteries for movement somewhere. Look to Georgia in Vancouver and Yonge or Spadina in Toronto for this. That said, there are elements of those big arterial rodes that Edmonton should think about emulating.

Um... so your response to the location of a women's emergency shelter is to TEAR UP the lease? This decision making matrix is wild.

    The Quarters

Incorrect. The services are moving to an existing space that is already serving people living though houselessness. Plus, the proximity of services means fewer friction points for people (meaning better services).

Houselessness in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region

Don't fret. Bissell Centre is already at this location, so this does not increase concentration of services in the area. If anything, the closure of the Drop-In Centre means there are net fewer services available in the neighbourhood than in years past.

I also think that it will add much needed light in those darker months. And thankfully, there are safety factors related to that.

Farrow absolutely serves fast food. As do the donair/shwarma restaurants in the area. As does Banh Mi Day close by on Jasper Ave. This serves as a model for what can be done in the neighbourhood without a drive-in.

Disagree - Farrow just up the street seems to be doing just fine.

I also have a theory that there are no voices at the decision making table that can relate to going out until 3am.

    1) I'd point out that both The Forks and Granville Island had major investments from the federal government. There are Government of Canada logos all over both sites - and I wonder if designating part of the area as a National Historic Site (by virtue of the Indigenous heritage and former fort...

    Downtown

Do we feel that 5,000 new units is realistic? That would get Downtown past the 20k mark - and anyone living in neighboring Wihkwentown can attest that this would mean a major shift in overall vibrancy and streetlife. Even more so, that many "eyes on the street" would mean a huge change in...

    Metro Line LRT | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

Yes to all of these things. That said, the reason I brought it up is that I don't see a clear business case for building BRT infrastructure over the next 10 year cycle, followed so closely by LRT to Castle Downs. I am confused that city administration would forward BRT with an LRT extension to...

    Metro Line LRT | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

But is it necessary with BRT connecting north Edmonton to downtown and the university? That is the question being asked.

The Forks in Winnipeg might be a better analog for what would work here.

    Metro Line LRT | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

With BRT now proposed to Castle Downs, does anyone else think that this could mean an end to Metro Line expansion past Blatchford? It seems to alter the business case for an expensive bridge over the CN tracks (especially when LRT expansion can be reallocated south beyond Ellerslie).
