I don't think we will see all that much tall development for a few years because of this. Edmonton is still a no go for many of the large REIT developers.

    Tower 101 | 175m | 50s | Regency Developments | DER + Associates

The thing is though the people leaving the GTA are doing it because they want a single family home, not an apartment in a much less desirable downtown. Edmonton DT does need a PR campaign coupled with a serious crackdown on social disorder to really attract institutional investment.

There is nothing downtown that doesn't exist in the suburbs. Parking is expensive. The LRT/Bus is a unsafe joke. Open drug use is overlooked by our for profit police force. I feel that we need to encourage more luxury and high end into our downtown. The perception of opulence often leads...

I'm not going to vote for people who continously put these facilities on the northeast side of the city. Enforce the laws that already exist.

    Ulaanbaatar Downtown

Just recently returned from Ulaanbaatar. Given the very similar climates they have some nice buildings.

It does look decent. Definitely need more ground level commercial. Downtown could also do with a general street level face-lift. Just coming back from Vancouver and it's a light year ahead of Edmonton for public spaces that are not awkward concrete modern "art"

Just recently returned from Ulaanbaatar. Given it's similar climate they have some good design inspirations.

Off the top of my head. The Quarters (Tossing a higher end neighborhood plan aside for more social decay) Blatchford (Green projects seem to have lost their appeal lately) Fort Road Rehabilitation (Orginally designed for density and gentrification, now more social housing and stalled...

    Scandinave Spa - Brander Gardens

I'm all for new attractions for the city but this one seems kind of blah to me. Weird area and the renders make it look like it's going to be very small. I think a better location could have been around the new NE city park. I'm biased but the NE needs some love.

    High Pointe Claireview

I'll take pictures soon. Didn't take the dog out when it was as cold as Mars outside and now it's a mud pit.

For sure, I've all but given up on the eastern portion of downtown (old chinatown) and it seems like the city has as well.

I am happy with the looks of this building, however this photo really highlights to me just how much more work Edmonton has to do to improve its downtown. A sea of empty lots on what should be triple A property.

Tell that to the northeast of Edmonton. There is 9 liquor stores within 10 minutes of me.

    Stanley A. Milner Library | ?m | 6s | EPL | Teeple Architects

The downtown library is a symbol of mediocrity that most Edmonton projects unfortunately fall into.

Hopefully this project puts some life back into Whyte Avenue. After visiting Nashville, Whyte Avenue could very much replicate Broadway's appeal.

    High Pointe Claireview

There is quite a bit of construction happening there. Two buildings are made of structural steel, so I'm hoping something a bit taller. I take my dog to the off leash dog park across the road all the time. One of the wooden framed buildings just topped out recently. Really hoping this influx...

    Manulife Place Renovations | 145.99m | 36s | AIMCo | MdeAS

I think luxury retail downtown is dead. It now resides in West Edmonton Mall, which realistically makes more sense. I really don't know what would be a good fit in terms of retail downtown anymore. It just seems like other then WEM and maybe Southgate most malls are now terminal and downtown...

    Falcon Towers | 170m | 44s | Langham Developments | Arc Studio

More is needed for that. Downtown isn't all that attractive for families with young kids. As a person with a young family who lives in a single family home way in the far north east here would be my barricades. - My perception of safety downtown for my kids still isn't the greatest. - Our...

    2025 Predictions

More of a wishlist rather then predictions. - Start of construction for ice district tower 2. - Implementation of a design philosophy for Edmonton, I find most new construction towers to be architecturally boring. - Yellowhead and 66st construction start. - Downtown and Chinatown urban...
