The Mercury Block II | Hodgson Schilf Evans

right, so again, in my experience. Public projects such as rec centers there is often little to no value engineering. Build as the drawings show. When it comes to private, there is often much value engineering, substitutions, etc (PCL and all other listed above GCs have private clients as well...

I'd love for you to point out some of the value engineering on any city rec center, the recent RCMP building debacle, RAM, etc

The Mercury Block II | Hodgson Schilf Evans

This sounds a lot like $725/sqft is including the soft cost vs $285 is the build cost. There is no doubt though that a lot of public buildings cost more though. Part of the reason is I am certain architects look for the most expensive materials to build a building. curtain wall, fancy...

    The Jameson | 53.95m | 17s | Open Sky | Acton Ostry

I don't see this getting built unless they bring in investors or sell it. Their budget is still pre-covid and doesn't take into account the extra floors they added from the start

    CNIB Redevelopment | 106m | 32s | ONE Properties | Wallman Architects

What do you mean no entertainment spots or jobs? Clementine, earls and the cabin pub are great spots, there is a sake bar, on the rocks. Jobs you're 3 blocks away from 124st which has all kinds of different opportunities. That's a pretty bold statement with no thought put into it

    Windsor Terrace | ?m | 12s | Pagaro Investments | Hodgson Schilf Evans

First time in a while a developer did something different with exterior finishes.. Everyone on here complains about boring window wall or plain eifs. This looks great. I wish more developers in this city would try something creative.

It is. I heard they have about 20 units leased and the corner cru space has been leased to a coffee shop

    The Jameson | 53.95m | 17s | Open Sky | Acton Ostry

I've seen their budget. It's unrealistic. If it does go through, it will be the most value engineered building youve ever seen in the city

Monitoring shoring. There is about a 5% chance this building goes with current owners

    The Quarters Hotel and Residences | 280.1m | 80s | Alldritt Land | KENNEDY

I'd love to be served a plate of crow on this one. Hopefully I will be, but I doubt it

    ICE Tower

Because the historical portion will be the most expensive part of the exterior

    The Quarters Hotel and Residences | 280.1m | 80s | Alldritt Land | KENNEDY

Its an amazing concept. Alldritt will never build it

    ICE Tower

Westrich will do the most economical bare minimum with the historical portion of the building

    ICE Tower

I predict this one will take some time. The are already over committed with their massive Kelowna project, have a couple smaller projects on the go currently in Edmonton and working on starting a project in Calgary.

    2023 Predictions

Almost any city will support a professional sports team when they are winning. The Edmonton oilers are an anomaly for having fans support them during the dark times. If you look at the elks, not much fan support with a losing team. Same would happen with many other professional teams, if they...

    The Parks | 146.91m | 45s | 35s | 13s | Pangman | Hariri Pontarini

My guess is that these floors have mechanical mains running down the corridor and they didn't want to end up with extra low ceilings

    Old Remand Centre Redevelopment | ?m | ?s | Boyle Street | Manasc Isaac

I'm all for repurposing old buildings, not the remand center though. Terrible memories for many people, including staff multiple contractors have got together to do budget pricing just to bring M&E up to current code and its not feasible. then we talk about the energy model, tiny windows, etc...

    Old Remand Centre Redevelopment | ?m | ?s | Boyle Street | Manasc Isaac

The car analogy for the old remand center is terrible. We are not talking about a historical building, where there is reason to keep it around because of its beautiful history. Its a building where the majority of its previous tenants have horrible memories. The amount of scanning, saw...
