Had to double check if today is Saturday (isn't everyone, really?) b/c construction on Valley Line at Churchill Square and the Jasper Ave New Vision on 100-97 st is full steam ahead (no reduction in crew from what I can see). There is never action on these sites during the weekends. Makes me...
I really hope the post above still stands, and the podium work continues. However, based on the Ice district cams that I've been checking out every day, the site over the past two days has been void of bodies when I do take a peek.
Just an observation, but these condo/apt developments have a whole bunch of ugly power lines/cables right up on their grill. ?
In the meantime anyway... I believe I read somewhere the city is planning on relocating the cables underground as part of the 105 ave rehab
edit: late to the party -...
Would be amazing if the city comes through and does this. A central park downtown of this size doesn't happen often.
Also noticed that the park includes the lot that is/was up for sale by Lamb for the defunct Jasper House condos. I'll take Dave's advice and not take the render too literally...
I just realized Doan's Vietnamese restaurant is missing, and the lot absorbed into the park. Last I read, Doan's refused to give up their land. Did I miss something?
Compared with the render ^, I'm actually digging the re-design top portion. Looks less busy, and more modern and sleek - especially with the dark color scheme going on.
^ Here's a million dollar idea somebody can steal: create a locked parcel box designed for your home, like they do with those CanadaPost parcel boxes in apartment buildings. Just hope ticked off porch pirates don't drop flaming poop or other undesirable alternatives inside.
Just noticed this evening that the LED lighting at top of JW is on (and staying on until now - so for several hours already). I'm not sure if there is a blue light theme disco jam going on at the top on a Saturday night, or this is the lighting they were talking about. I'm no expert in LED...
This is the new downtown Edmonton, and I love it! Great photo I stumbled across and decided to share

^ The photo gallery for each project separates this site from the rest as well. It is a very handy resource. It's nice to easily follow, and look back at how these new developments change over time. It'll be a fun watch for Alldritt, that's for sure.
The funny thing is, I've walked by and looked at those panels regularly as construction progressed; it just never occurred to me to keep looking at them while moving. ?
Once ice district phase 2 get's going and completed, this photo...
will resemble this...
Ok, not quite as bad. But I really hope that East side get's better. All Happy was my go-to food joint those late nights long ago, and I feel for the owners.
Economics aside, would be cool to see what would happen if there were high speed rail, integrated with ETS and Calgary Transit. A day pass (at the current price) would allow you to use unlimited transit in both cities for 24 hours!
