The frustration with scheduling and prioritization is valid, but this weekend is a good reminder of why getting too aggressive too early can just end up with having to redo work.

I think you just have to play historical averages and then adjust year to year. It certainly wasn’t early this year and sweeping should have been happening the last few weeks. This is just a late snow that’ll be gone in a days time. Anything already swept is still going to be clean. Waiting until the snow is guaranteed over (May basically) would be silly as many aprils see few snow days

Not only that, but get out, get going and come back.

Do we wait for a week of snow before clearing it, not, we come back as necessary.

Again, our non-winter months are exceptionally short and need that dirt/grime/dust gone ASAP and it should not take until June to do this work.

No, we don’t but you and the operations branch at the city don’t have the same objectives. I truly believe their one and only objective is do this as economically as possible, and their entire plan is based around that.

Here we rightly see a different objectives for our core and would sacrifice efficiency for getting key areas cleaned quick and kept clean. I think that’s the shift that’s going to need to occur here.

Thank you for the reasonable comments on this. Much more thoughtful than simply declaring that "we" must do better and taking pictures of gravel on the street.

We did have an update on Downtown, given the City Centre Optimization Budget of $3m it does get priority. City confirmed even if sand is put down they will come by again and pick it up. And a reminder that Downtown is NOT marked as done until they do 3-4 passes as they need to work around park cars, etc.

I just think they often start too late. Given budget and things like playoffs they could start in late March or early April once snow and ice. They don't have to wait until last snow fall do start picking up gravel even if it snows again they have the budget to send sweepers out again.
