Alberta Politics

Hard to believe this one poll that shows the Smith UCP is leading in every part of the province including both major cities.

Apparently UCP is more popular in Edmonton (48% support) than Calgary (47%). The NDP has 41% support in both major cities.

Outside the cities, not even close.

Nothing says quality reporting than “Yahoo News,” you know the email domain you use to sign up for porn sites in the late 90’s……

Polls mean jack squat.
The only polls that matter are elections.
Next.

I seriously want the democrats to win the next election but Naheed Nenshi is giving me the impression of being a weak leader. It seems like he is reading from a script every time he speaks, I see zero passion or rage coming from the guy. He appears to be a major sympathizer to the LGBTh7urYe%^$feuyiw+ cause. Something that me as a democrat have absolutely no interest in. How are the democrats going to win the election with him in charge?

The NDP need to win the election, and the only way to do that is to convince moderate UCP supporters to switch sides. Do any UCP supporters even care about queer rights? This issue was already dealt with, do we need to bring it up again? Pipelines, and how Alberta deals with Canada (not Alberta independence, but policies from the federal government that constrain Alberta) are the issues that are on every Albertan's mind regardless of political spectrum. We will have already lost if the NDP brings queer issues to the table.

I think the NDP need to push the following:
(1) A Canadian unity petition ignored by the UCP, along with the repeated proposals for separation.
(2) Preserving our Canadian programs like CPP, and Canadian institutions like RCMP.
(3) Preserving the rights Alberta has built over time. How many times has the Notwithstanding clause been used? 30% of Albertans are immigrants.
(4) Preserving our environment.

LGBTQ issues don’t win elections in Alberta. Most people who follow politics even a little would know where the NDP stand on the issue, so they need to focus on issues that matter to swing voters; like affordability, the economy and Alberta’s place in Canada.
