Give it some time and I'm optimistic frequencies on YEG-KEF will rise.Flights to Mexico being increased as a result. Would be nice if WS also boosted the Iceland flight to more weekly options.

With the conflicts happening in the world since then the January numbers are kind of meaningless now. If they continue, I could see international travel being hit harder later this year and domestic travel being more resilient.Feel like I've been negative on this front but it's looking like another tough year ahead for passenger numbers at YEG with Jan & Feb already seeing lower numbers. Fuel prices aren't exclusive to YEG but it does tend to get hit harder than others. Things change quickly though so who knows.
It’s worth mentioning that not all of those connecting passengers are from Prairie cities (although the lion’s share probably are). I once met a Californian in Italy who connected through Calgary on WestJet to get a better airfare deal. YYC will likely get more foreign connecting passengers when they launch their Abu Dhabi (west coast passengers) and Sao Paulo (Japan-Brazil) routes.Just to put it on the table so there is no more dispute ever again about YYC’s numbers and how they relate to YEG’s……
YYC’s total traffic included 34.4% connecting traffic numbers in 2024. So, 18.9M X 34.4% =12.34 M Without YEG’er and other prairie cities filling up their planes…..so they're only 4M more than YEG….not10M as others might like to think……mic drop!
