It’s basically turning the mall inside out into another Capilano style outdoor strip mall.

A guy from my dental office in the mall said some nice retailers will be there including Lululemon.
The previous food court area will be parking lot.

That would be going back to the original mall. Since it was an open mall for quite a few years.

When was that? My recollection of it (from skipping class in high school, so many, many years ago) was of a regular (if somewhat dull) mall.

Me neither, but this is probably the cheaper option, rather than do a lot of maintenance to for it to remain an indoor mall which struggled ever since the huge mall further west was built.

Is the reasoning because you eliminate all the “common area” maintenance? Can allow stores to more independently set hours? Increase parking space?

Mainly because of theft. No idea why they didn't just hire security. It was always busy.

I suspect housing will not be proposed because it's not on the LRT network. Time to add more LRT lines!

Straying off topic but I really don’t see Lulu opening another store so close to 2 of their existing stores, especially their West Ed store (apparently one of their top grossing stores globally). If we get a 4th location I suspect it would either be SEC or the Outlet Mall near the airport.

I also can't see the empty food court area being turned into a parking lot, seeing that GYMVNT is still there. But never say never.
