This project is moving into the territory of major lrt projects in terms of construction time - so far 6 years... and counting.

"Construction on the Winspear Centre expansion in Edmonton began in January 2020. The project, aimed at expanding the facility's community impact, was designed to include a new 550-seat concert hall, a music library, and a childcare center.
Initial Schedule: The project was planned to span from 2020 to 2022."

It appears the funding report was supposed to go the same day as the parkade report, but it got deleted, according to the link. So I guess it will be coming later? Unfortunately, I don't see anything that mentions another date. I thought it was already approved theoretically when the CRL was amended for the Event Park last year. I wonder if there are now more costs on top of the amount from the CRL?

Things that make you go HMMMMMM.

The idea that the province is going to pitch in for the demolition of the Coliseum is a fantasy. The old unspoken tit for tat treatment of Edmonton and Calgary by the province is over. Calgary will get money and we won't, it's not right but it's reality. The Coliseum needs to go, its been a dead blight on our neighborhood for nearly a decade now. It's an ugly concrete pile that is not worth saving as any potential reuse would be much cheaper to build from scratch. Better to use that money to save truly significant structures like the powerplant or filling in the 118 ave LRT hole and building the two new LRT stations. Its an embarrassment that the City has yet to deal with the Coliseum.

This is distracting from the real issue, a DOUBLING of the Winspear project cost since the funding was awarded. It's not even primarily inflation! They kept adding bells and whistles until the project ballooned way out of budget. I am a regular patron of the ESO and most years buy a subscription. Love the Winspear but this this project has gotten way out of hand. The City should think very carefully about rescuing the Winspear foundation from this, we have our own financial problems to deal with. This chart from the report is very informative.

^ here's what I was referring to about the scope creep. (some of these things I think are justifiable... some less so.)

Wait what?! From Clark to Ledcor? Why can’t Clark finish it? Sounds like when Graham was punted fro. The GP hospital in favour of Clark
Not a good thing in my opinion, particularly since they haven’t secured additional funding yet. It makes you wonder if the extra costs have anything to do with them breaking a contract?

This will be a case study of what not to do in project management.
