Federal Politics

An interesting twist. I suspect the close result was a factor considered. MPs often pay close attention to political shifts in their own riding. Also, didn't he start out as a PC in Alberta?
Alberta PC I believe. I feel like the CPC and UCP are speedrunning breaking Conservative Fortress Alberta.

If they keep this up, I wouldn't be surprised if the Liberals get more and more urban seats in this province.

Israel is an ethnostate though. Just say it and own it?
I’m sure you’re equally as critical of Japan, South Korea, China, Jordan, UAE, Egypt etc etc etc etc.

But thank you for proving my point and why I don’t associate with the left anymore. Ignorant virtue signalling and histrionic hypocritical antisemitism is rife on the left.

I had higher hopes for McPherson and I’ve met her a few times. She was smart, poised and capable. But it seems that neither she nor the NDP as a party can step back from radical far left identity politics.

It’s very unfortunate because we need rational, pragmatic leadership and options right now.

I'm one of the most right wing leaning people on this forum.

Most of those places you're naming aren't settlements. What are you even saying?

Israel is a settlement in the sense that Canada is. It's not that deep.

Canadians and Americans aren't this defensive, why are non-Israelis in a Canadian forum carrying their water?

Except you didn’t accuse all countries of being settlements or Canada as being a settlement or Canada and the US of being settlements did you?

You also stated Israel was an “ethnostate” which is also incorrect. All Israeli citizens, including the 26% of the population (80%of whom are Arab) that are non-Jewish, enjoy full legal and voting rights.

We’re not carrying water for anyone or anything except to throw it on those tossing gasoline on the fire.

Well, Japan is probably more of an "ethnostate" and not that welcoming to foreigners as residents. I feel some people just repeat slogans without really thinking about them and that really turns off those who do more.

The problems are really not in the country of Israel itself, but the adjacent disputed territories where there is ongoing conflict and has been for decades, which at times has been all out war or close to it.

The obvious next question is, what about the Arabs in the West Bank and Gaza? Do Palestinians who are kicked out of their family homes by settlers from Brooklyn with no recourse have the 'same rights' as Israelis?

In all my time in Israel, I met a lot of lovely people but I also heard jokes about e.g. using Arabs for target practice (EDIT: to be clear, Israeli Arabs). There's now a far-right government with ministers who keep spouting exterminationist rhetoric not just against those living in Palestinian territories but all Arabs in Israel, with no consequences. So yeah, on paper they may have the same rights; I don't think it works out that way in practice. I think really the pretense of equality was dropped entirely following the 2018 Nation-State Bill.

You're allowed to be a Zionist. I know the name Cantor. I'm not upping the RA in here, though.

Conservative MP Matt Jeneroux has crossed floor to join Carney Liberals. It may have something to do with major defense spend at YEG.

Let’s see what Home Boy Carney has in store for “HIS HOMETOWN?” Some big Carney bucks flow announcement forthcoming?

^^

It's nice to know you know that Cantor means singer in Portuguese.

I'm missing the Irish Republican Army or Rheumatoid Arthritis or Egyptian Sun God reference...

Crazy Avi - the next leader of the NDP with some astute comments. The NDP will probably only get one seat in the next federal election when Heather "Hamas" McPherson predictably wins Edmonton Strathcona. The NDP is now irrelevant and Canada has become a two party system and in socialist Canada the Liberals can now govern for life - this is not good for any democracy. Some very tough times ahead for the confederation - I wonder how long it can stay together in its current form.

"I don’t believe we need to spend 2% of our GDP on military spending, as we need that money for other things, including the climate emergency, which is costing us more money while destroying towns and filling our lungs with smoke. The idea that we should now move to 5% of GDP is a destructive and nihilistic fantasy, pouring fuel on the climate fire."
