Valley Line LRT | TransEd/Marigold | City of Edmonton

Exactly. We have 3+ years till the trains running. So how about they time it for the current state.

Everyone please email Marigold and cc your councillor. It can change things.
Trains are desired by MIP to be running this fall btw.

In my opinion (not representative of MIP), it'll be fully possible for the western portions of the line.

Would love to see it, but I doubt any testing beyond a few short blocks is possible in 2026. The majority of the line doesn’t even have continuous track bed, let alone track in it, let alone overhead wire connected yet.

They also said the gantry crane would be finished fall 2024. They were a year off that one.

Guess we’ll see. But until trains are on 104ave (all of 124-130st is still a dirt hole, and 102ave isn’t even demolished, so I don’t see trains in this section especially anytime soon), they should fix the lights to help vehicles and pedestrians flow smoothly. I got off the #7 early yesterday cause I was so tired of the red lights and just walked down to 103ave and beat it to Churchill…

Love the fact that 'we' spent millions on doors, heating elements and yet on a stupid cold day the public rider freezes.

So I wonder if they are going to be able to do anything better with the new stations on the west line. Perhaps normal doors instead of the sliding doors that kept on being busted. Also I think there definitely has to be an improvement on security and loitering.

I often like to transfer to the Valley Line at Churchill to do my absurdly short hop to 102 St stop if the timing is right. This morning was bizarre, it took three green light cycles for the train to get the vertical line crossing 100 St, a brief stop at 100A St but we got the vertical line right away, then two green light cycles at 101 St.

Ive seen that weird timing a few times as well. Im guessing it has to do with being a terminus right now? But I have zero clue.

Were there any trains nearby? Or crews working at then crossovers?

A Mill Woods bound train left Churchill Stop shortly before the 102 St bound train arrived. No crew on the track.

Hopefully not, a few years of this sounds painful. I'm just trying to do my part to pad the Valley Line ridership numbers.

time will tell, MIP would have likely already procured whatever type of door they are going to use or at least factored them into the design since steel is already going up at stops

I should have also asked what time of day as well, and which track you used at 102 St.
Regardless, at most stops with traffic lights immediately ahead of the train, the operator needs to send a request for a green light. It is certainly not unheard of for trains to wait at Churchill for a variety of reasons and just wait to send the request to the traffic light controller until they are ready to depart, and that includes for reasons like wanting to use a preferred track at 102 St, or crews working on the crossovers. Given the weather it could have been something a switch not wanting to lock at Control was cycling it or a switch position indicator wasn't lit. Getting a stop signal at 100A Street happens often enough 101 St is just seems bizarre though. I don't think I've ever encountered that in my travels.
