If the Winspear hasn't spurred development in the Quarters to date, I don't think this new expansion will suddenly be the driver. People need basic necessities and safety to want to live in a neighbourhood, not an improved music and concert hall. I say that as someone who frequents the Winspear and loves the place.
Keep in mind that the Conservatory of Music will be moving here. I think it will be a big deal to have more people coming into the Winspear during the day, not just for concerts.

Any target opening date for the longest project in history?
Council hasn't actually approved the capital funding gap yet. They approved the extension of the CRL back in the summer that included up to $33.4M, but the parking report @northlands linked mentioned they would be bringing the funding report with actual amounts forward in 2026. Assuming that gets approved, probably looking at 2027 opening unless they have said something more concrete in their member newsletter.

Unless things have changed from when I last talked to someone at the Winspear which was around mid 2025, it will happen when it happens, when they're ready, when they've said something to us, when...

This project is moving into the territory of major lrt projects in terms of construction time - so far 6 years... and counting.

"Construction on the Winspear Centre expansion in Edmonton began in January 2020. The project, aimed at expanding the facility's community impact, was designed to include a new 550-seat concert hall, a music library, and a childcare center.
Initial Schedule: The project was planned to span from 2020 to 2022."
