Edmonton Oilers

Will be an interesting stretch run. The Oilers have played the most games in the conference and with really only a couple of losses in a row, suddenly we're outside a playoff position.
If Oilers were in Eastern Conference, we would be 9th right now with also having played more games than other teams.

So if these last minute combacks the last couple of games didn't happen, it would not be pretty.

Also, Florida is outside a playoff position and Toronto is second last. Meanwhile Pittsburgh is surging and Buffalo has done a major turnaround from last year.

I thought winning 3 in a row was pushing it, but 4 was too much. 🙁
So much for the Skinner trade. I thought Jarry would be more consistent, but we’re in the same spot we were before the trade.

We should be running away with the Pacific, but they don’t seem committed to a full 60 minute effort most nights. Thankfully Vegas doesn’t look great, and haven’t looked very good since getting Andersson. We still have a good shot at winning the division.

'Where goalies go to die'

We simply aren't a D focussed team and accountability on the backend is lacklustre.

But hey, that's OK; we just need to score 5-7 a game.

Warning - negative post.

I'm the biggest Oilers fan, but I just don't like the makeup of this edition of the team.

With this loss to the Leafs, Oilers record against Eastern Conference is 12-13-3. Oilers are really fortunate Western conference is weaker or we'd be like Florida this year and in big jeopardy of not making playoffs. It's certainly not a given regardless.

Honestly, I don't think the Oilers have the D and Ingram and Jarry aren't the answer.

We shall see.
Our entire defensive system is horrible, across the lineup.
There's no forechecking, no backchecking, passing lanes are left open all the time, but worst of all is there is no sense of urgency on defensive play by 90% of the roster.
I honestly blame it on losing Paul Coffey and the changes made to the coaching staff (minus the goalie coach). If we had this team playing the defensive game we saw in the two previous seasons, Ingram and Jarry would be faring A LOT better than they are.

Savoie has got to go and I do believe that we need a strong 3rd liner and maybe a D to do anything this year.

Tonight we got out goalied and some bad puck luck, along a 5-3... otherwise a game that was very winnable.
I don't think we got outgoalied. Up until the 5-on-3 (which as absolute horrible officiating, as was the entire game) it was a very even game, and Oilers were building momentum. That call on Savoie was soft AT BEST, and the call on Janmark should have been a wash, since he was also hooked (a 4-on-3 was the correct call).

I do think Savoie needs to spend some time down in Bako again, but he has a future in the NHL.

Definitely need a 3C (preferably an experienced, gritty guy) and a stay-at-home right shot D-man to go anywhere.
