Alberta Politics

Well its not over yet, but probably much harder to organize on a local level than thought, unless an MLA is very unpopular for a specific reason such as a scandal.

This was supposed to be one of the more likely to succeed, so if it doesn't the pressure and interest may quickly go away.
I wonder how LaGrange's numbers are.

I wonder if province will be coming to the rescue financially in part regarding Calgary's water pipe fiasco - Ive heard local politicians there bring up the idea.

Report shows city councils from 2004 onward were kept in the dark regarding the extent of the problem from their city admin - which is brutal (but takes some heat off Nenshi). Meanwhile other cities with similar constructed pipes spent hundreds of millions to build new system, Calgary continued to fund other city building initiatives - and now Alberta taxpayers should help out while their city taxes stay low?

I was thinking this today as well. The province bails Calgary out for reasons, and once again, the rest of the province (but more importantly, Edmonton) pays as a result.

Yes, I could see that happening, but given how Smith and the UCP really like to micromanage and control things, municipal politicians and the City of Calgary may not like the price for such a rescue.

The solution to Alberta's economic woes is not producing more oil and another pipeline. Oil companies are already increasing production now, but not jobs as they become more efficient partly due to lower oil prices.

Agreed… the long term sustainable solutions are a harmonized sales tax, realistic corporate and personal income tax rates, secondary manufacturing (including bitumen upgrading, forestry and agriculture) and investing in R&D, health care, education, and the arts.

You forgot developing tech - an economic stream that was actually growing quite rapidly in the brief NDP tenure and then killed off as soon as the UCP came in.

Edit: Sorry - I missed R&D in your post.

Sooo...

Dan Williams, our provincial Minister of Municipal Affairs, has written a letter to the City of Calgary demanding more than two decades of documentation regarding the Bearspaw South Feeder Main.

Why? Because "accountability and sustainability of the delivery of utilities in Alberta's municipalities will be a key priority for the Government of Alberta going forward."

Why? Good question - perhaps so they can screw that up the same way they're screwing up health care and education and...
🙁

Ley are looking for leverage against Neshi. even though he said he was partly responsible. Not asking the right questions.

I heard Saskatchewan will be given access to out Netcare system. Wainwright Lloyd and other boarder communities. I know Roya University Hospital in Saskatoon gets Alberta patients so it would be good to have access to the health records. Still lots of hoops to jump before they can get it. That system was one of the shinning lights of our health care system. And is still the bases of Connectcare.

They hate what they fear. They fear what they don't understand.
Well they may be getting a bit desperate now that their favourite scapegoat for all their problems took a walk in the snow a year ago.

Also whatever their attempt at gotcha here is kind of ridiculous, the water line was put in decades before Nenshi was mayor and the problem happened after he was gone for over a term.
