Federal Politics

Criticizing the Israeli state which has moved rightward at the speed of light ever since Rabin and Sharon died isn't antisemitism. You really can't expect a two-state solution with the consistent approval of new settlements in the West Bank, something which Ariel Sharon even knew and was committed to removing before his stroke.

Criticizing the fact that figures like Ben-Gvir are influential members of Israel's current government isn't antisemitism and is a spit in the face of what Rabin died for.

I don't understand antisemitism. I really don't.

I can understand people hating on Africans, Asians, Indians and Middle Easterners. But hating on Jewish people? When you have likes of Stephen Mandel, Zack Hyman, Steven Spielberg, Jerry Seinfeld, Gene Simmons and Barbara Streisand? Why?

I don't get this either. Local people are not responsible for what the government of far away country does. For instance, are people attacking Russian Orthodox churches here because of the war in Ukraine?

I feel it is is mainly just a cover for hate and prejudice similar to that Africans, Asians, Indians and Middle Easterners have to put up with.

Politics is tough.

Carney in China. Having Chinese tariffs removed from Canola would be great for prairies. Having more affordable EVs is also good for consumers. But Ontario and auto industry does not want Canada to reduce tariffs on Chinese EVs. Some are going to be very unhappy.

If the priority is economic development, measure how substantial of an economic contributor the Ontario auto industry actually is, then compare it to the ripple effects of new purchase prices dropping by 20-30k on the consumer end. Increased discretionary capital is the most effective stimulus. If the priority is electrification, increase ICE vehicle levies and use those levies to subsidize EV/hybrid sales. A nordic country (the specific one is escaping me) did this, and their title issuances in 2025 were 94% for EV's, 6% for ICE.

My two cents.

The priority is a robust economy
A noble sentiment, one might think this, but nope not really. Politically, people whose jobs are threatened are motivated.

If their numbers are large enough and they are in a place where their votes have an impact (ie. close races) governments will do what they can to preserve those jobs.

We are seeing the Auto Industry can be wiped out by Trump. If push comes to Shove the Big 3 will most all operations south. The Asian industries will stay here. But creating a robust economy should help industries across the country. We have been worrying about the Auto Industry for more years than I can remember. But it has been being reduced every year. When I lived in Ontario in the Late 80s and 90s there were constant scare stories that if the Gov didn't back the Industry (Mostly financially) that they would move. NAFTA saw a lot move south and to Mexico. Saw more go with CUSMA. Maybe time to help create new jobs and let the old move away.

The big 3 have been in Canada for around a century. Will they be wiped out? Maybe or maybe not. For now we are still tied to the US and Mexico through geography, history and CUSMA.

Are we instead going to throw out lot in with a country that just a few years ago was arresting Canadians and has been as arbitrary and heavy handed on trade and other things as the US? I don't think so.

Politics is all about short term thinking unfortunately. In reality jobs are a bye product of the economy the trick is making sure the wealth is distributed evenly.
