World Politics

So Trump has invaded Venezuela and used the US military to kidnap Nicolas Maduro to bring an end to his drug trafficking to the US.

Exactly one month after he granted a full pardon to Juan Hernandez, the ex-president of Honduras, for drug trafficking to the US.

Don’t get me wrong, Maduro and Hernandez are/were thugs with little to no legitimacy supporting their presidencies.

But don’t get Trump wrong either. This isn’t about drugs, this is about oil and about his ability to ignore international law as well as US law when it’s in his own personal interest, real or perceived.

What’s next? Iran? Sudan? Greenland? Canada?
Whatever he decides I guess since his party and thus congress by extension show they have zero desire to exercise their oversight powers and do anything but kneel down to Trump. The system designed to supposedly combat absolute power has been shown to be a farce.

Trump seems to have a knack for spotting weakness and opportunities to make money, so Venezuela was the perfect opportunity. Of course drugs were a just pretext and it is all about oil, of which it has a lot.

Maduro had few friends left, was mostly geographically isolated from them (Russia is preoccupied with its own conflict, Cuba is economically struggling too and China is far away) and also had little other support internationally as the legitimacy of his regime was already questioned by many countries.

As to what is next, who knows for sure, but of the four listed only Iran has a lot of oil and is internationally unpopular, also with growing domestic discontent, so that would be my bet.

As I’ve said previously, there can be much truth in sarcasm…

Haven't been here for awhile - as usual not much has changed. The USA (and especially Trump) living rent-free in the heads of millions of Canadians. TDS on steroids. Eight million Venezuelan people have migrated during the past 20 years - about 25% of their population. I've met two families of Venezuelan migrants through my job in KL. China (you know the country that the CIS told the Canadian public interrferred in our federal elections and was terrorizing Canadian Chinese citizens), and Iran (you know, that country led by unelected Jew hating terrorism supporting stone age Mullahs whose own people are rising up against them) and Russia (you know that country led by evil Putin that invaded Ukraine and threatens Europe with nukes) were all supporters of Maduro. Millions of Venezuelans in-country and globally rejoice at his demise. But lefty know it all Liberals still find a way to blame Trump and denounce the USA.

Some information about the 60 Minutes episode that got cancelled because the corporate oligarchs who owned CBS apparently got cold feet.

60 Minutes deportation segment briefly airs in Canada after being shelved in the US

You mean the 60 minutes that took interviews and manipulated the interviews through unethical editorial malpractice and then aired them knowing they had committed journalistic malpractice - the BBC did this too and resulted in the top two managers getting fired. CBS, CBC, CNN, BBS etc have lost so much credibility they have become irrelevant. When I come on this forum it's like entering a boomer echo chamber of progressive "educated" "liberals' sanctimonious virtue signalling - I'm sure you all feel the warmth of each other company. The technocrat Carney, who has been unsurprisingly an abject failure and the Liberal party will eventually lose and the downfall will be spectacular. Lefty governments in the UK, France and Germany will go down eventually. Comrade Starmer and Labour will be obliterated next election - Starmer has been the worst PM in UK's history. The only question is what Canada will look like when the carnage (no pun intended) needs to be cleaned up - can Canada survive the Trudeau-Carney years? There are now three separtist movements taking hold in this country. The status quo is not sustainable.

The Conservatives are ahead in every demographic except the boomers. Unfortunately due to high post WW2 birth rates the boomers have significant electoral clout and can sway elections. Also, boomers were very luck to be able to buy their homes for relatively cheap reasonable prices and then enjoy massive home equity growth by just sitting in their houses. Young people deserve much better from this Liberal government that panders to boomer voters, especially in Central Canada. I've lived in Canada, Europe and Asia and Canada is a very lucky and fortunate country with ample resources and no big devastating wars fought on our soil and no massive natural disasters in our history. So many countries and their citizens have had much greater adversity than Canada - yet so many Canadians let a obnoxious and boorish US president turn them into hysterical whiners because Trump offends their civilized sensibilities. Franky, its embarrassing for Canada and this country is not taken seriously by our allies or anyone other than socialists WEF pals of the Liberals. Canada is an afterthought - and most foreigners from economically advanced places think Canada is a left wing mediocre country that allows rampant anti-semitism, lawlessness and drugs to impact the well being of its society. Most people globally don't like Trump but the USA is respected as an economic, cultural and military power. Canada used to be respected as tolerant advanced country with reasonable and effective governance but those days are over. The last election this country needed a new government but too many boomers voted for Carney, a slimy technocrat who will not deliver what this country needs - too many boomers actually believed that the US military was going to invade and take their home equity away from them by force. Shame on them. Danielle Smith is a smart and reasonable leader doing her best to improve long term economic conditions and give young people hope in their future - but on this boomer dominated forum she gets scorned and put down daily - I guess David Eby or Nenshi would be a better option. I live in KL and my son's friends, who are an international group of smart well educated kids, don't even think of Canada - most of them still want to go to the USA for university because it is economically dynamic. Twenty years of Trudeau and Carney (with help from their boomer supporters) is ruining this country.

Just like China - they see Canada as weak and many other countries where they have implemented their authoritarian influence, you know when they are not busy bullying their neighbours, letting covid loose on the world, spewing massive amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere and plastic into the oceans, and committing genocide against minorities in their own country. Its incredible how many left thinking sanctimonious people think the USA is the big threat when we live in a world with Russia, China and Iran. But according to the lefty progressive's one man, Donald Trump, is the big threat and can be blamed for Canada's problems. This seems like not very deep thinking from people who espouse to be "educated" while looking down at the Appalachian type redneck rural folk. Trump played all of you - spouted off about the 51st state and got his man Carney elected and you can't even see it.

^ Funny but so true. This guy has eaten a big chunk of the "Politics of Division" pie.

We are giving this poor tortured soul oxygen for his far right (off the charts) ramblings. Better to just ignore. He is going to be really pissed off after the U.S. midterm elections.
