“Fintech” another one drinking the Kool Aid thinking that it is anything but a Call Center has all YYC’ers drinking from the same pitcher…..
As someone who works in Fintech, I can tell you this isn't the case.

A) There are more software developers and business analysts than there are call centre people (except for maybe Neo) Neo started out like all fintech companies, heavy of developers and analysts, and other roles and hit a point where the company winds down or flattens those functions, and ramps up functions such as call centers.

B) Fintech companies (other than Neo) don't don't employ very many call centre jobs (my company for example doesn't at all) and of the few there, not many are in Calgary. Google 'Fintech jobs Calgary' and you'll see what type of jobs are available in the industry. You'll find very few call centre jobs.

C) 4 of those Calgary fintech companies are worth over a billion dollars each. The fintech industry is a relatively small industry, but in Calgary it's been growing at a good rate, doubling from 5,000 jobs to around 11,000 in the past 10 years, not including jobs indirectly related to fintech. It's not huge numbers compared to oil and gas, but many of those are high paying jobs, and the companies produce high value per employee. That high growth has come with increased office space usage.

Sure, sure, besides Neo, there is only Mphasis and Infosys - both "Global Leaders in the Call Center".....business....

They've rebranded them as "Fintech" because of the negative connotation of the phrase, "Call Center." It's a YYC spin job....all good...don't sweat it...no judgment here.....

Apologies in advance for taking the thread off track. This will be my last post on the subject of fintech.

I'm not sure if you're being facetious or trying to make some kind of a point, but either way, the above is incorrect. Mphasis and Infosys are in no way related to fintech, both are 100% IT related, and are not part of the Fintech industry or job numbers. Some fintech jobs fall under the category of tech jobs, along with some jobs at companies like Infosys but tech jobs from companies like Infosys, etc.. do not fall under the fintech category. As for Infosys and Emphasis, yes, they are new to Calgary and have been hiring people, but so far have hired only a couple of hundred each (I don't have any exact or recent numbers). They have remote roles for Tier 2 and 3 support, as well as all kinds of other contractor IT positions and those are typical IT jobs. Both companies do their tier 1 call centre support from India.
Of Calgary's 64,000 tech jobs (which also includes some fintech jobs) very few, if any are call centre jobs. Most of those are done out of province or out of country.

Not sure how long it has been this way, but the "Zebra" Parkade on 104th st, just north of the Falcon tower seems to be shut down. Gates down, no cars inside.

Gawd what an ugly beast! Redevelop this NOW please.

Ian, that was the old location of Westrich's defunct proposal for that land....you guys were going to demolish half the parkade to squeeze a tower ($90M est - forget the name) on it between the parkade and Falcon #1. Is it back on the table?

This parkade should be converted into mid-rise infill with retail/restaurant/pub CRUs at street level and underground parking.
