Porter starting flights ✈️between Vancouver & Edmonton will make Air Canada, WestJet & Flair cut back on few weekly flights on this route & consolidate more between YEG & YVR✅.

On the Calgary- Vancouver - YYC , WestJet /AC & also Flair will match Porter additions / offerings on this route✅.

“Competitions is good 👍🏻 for sure”, but at Edmonton YEG airlines cut back to consolidate more, year round✅.We seen this happen plenty of times already previous years & will continue to!
You have some source that is the basis for your statement (lol).

Fantastic news about Porter if true. I always choose their flights if they offer a competitive price (which they most often do). And they are really helpful as pushback against WestJet's drift to the bottom. Plus, they are the main factor that keeps Air Canada from functioning as a monopoly for anything connecting to Quebec.

If Porter can become our true third national carrier then I'm here for it.

I will post the formal notice as soon as I get it. But Since I am probably traveling back and forth from YVR this will be a good option.

I don't buy that. Will depend on frequency but a 1x daily won't induce any kind of reduction response from incumbents on this important route. I would speculate Westjet would be very much inclined to defend it's turf on both ends, AC on the YVR end and needs to keep up a reasonable frequency of flights for business and intl connections. Not sure what the play would be from Flair but I don't think the likely answer is the incumbents drawing down service on the route.

More likely they will reduce seat count through smaller planes vs actual flight reductions.

AC already flies a mix of mainline A320s, A220s and Jazz CRJ-900s so they could keep frequencies and connection options the same with just shifting to fewer A320 flights.

Similarly with WJ they could run more of their lower capacity 737-700s.

Air Canada has started coach bus services to connect Toronto area cities and towns to YYZ. Could we see this kind of service in the Edmonton area?

No. The coach bus services are from other GTA area airports (YHM, YKF, YGK) where you check in with your luggage at the smaller regional airport and it’s transferred to your final destination.

We don’t have any regional airports close enough/large enough to make it viable for AC. Maybe Red Deer but they’d probably run the coach to Calgary vs Edmonton as AC has a bigger presence there than YEG.

From this basic render it looks like the North Tower will definitely be improved and will not look so much like it is one of the last remnants of the old Airport. Hopefully this won't affect traffic upon the departures level too much.
On another note not related to that expansion/ renovation, I would hope that the YEG can improve their pick up area on the far side of the Parkade and it would be really nice to have a climate controlled pedway through the Parkade to that pick up area. I'm thinking back to last year when I arrived and it was late night and cold at the start of March and there was no shelters really there to wait for our Uber. If that area is going to be the permanent pickup area for Uber then I think the airport should at least improve it enough that it isn't an issue to go there and wait there for your ride.

As far as I remember, that is supposed to be temporary, while there is construction going.
