IN OTHER NEWS, things seem to have dried off enough that they're back to working on the grading for the NW expansion along Alpha Boulevard, though the area for the future roadbed remains well below grade. And, though it's not exactly aesthetic, the arrival of the garbage bins heralds the impending arrival of residents for another row of townhomes.

It's been nearly one year since the Hangar 11 fire/arson and it's is still an enormous wreck. Why hasn't this been cleaned up yet?
I'm not sure that they even got their financial ducks in a row to do literally anything with it. The owner produced some architectural renderings in ~ May 2022, launched a website, and made some social media posts that are just pictures of the property without any evidence of commencement of restoration. Then they just went quiet in September and appear to have made no further updates on the project until the fire. Failure to secure the property was a big factor in the fire itself. After the fact, it was revealed that the project cost had climbed from a claimed an incredibly low $40 million to a $75 million figure more in line with the city's restoration estimates. After the building burned, they claimed they had a partnership in the works with an Austin developer but details were vague.

So, my hypothesis is that the owner is broke, and their prospective partner has bailed or just never actually came fully on board.

When I took my last photos, the Landmark lots north of the corner of Lois Argue and Cedric Mah did not have a construction fence up. Now it does, which suggests that block is about to start construction. Also, the grading activity has stepped up its extent and tempo, including work on the roadbeds.

Can you please also keep us posted on the progress of the area directly behind amiskwaciy academy? It's supposed to become a green space for the kids, with a linear park connecting it with the rest of Blatchford. It would be interesting to see that develop.

Yep. I'm interested in that too. There isn't much to see yet other than filling and grading. The two vehicles left side of my second picture were working in that general area.

Well, they were initially expecting to spend $40 million to rehab the hangar so this is a bit audacious.

If you go to the allAlberta homepage, it has a link that says "Hangar 11 suit". Which I assume refers to a lawsuit? The other headline isn't clear whether it was a funding ask or what.

If anyone has details on this, I would definitely be interested. Not sure where a lawsuit for $30 million would come from and how the City would be on the hook for that?

There appears to be equipment on site at Hangar 11 to clean up the remains after last year’s fire. Hopefully a good sign for the future.

Yeah. They had excavators loading dump trucks, with people working in moon suits and spraying down the debris to keep dust from billowing.
