    General Infill Discussion

This seems to be what is slowly happening on 95 Ave in Strathearn near the LRT, and it's shaping up to be a great little street, especially when the Strathearn Heights redevelopment is finished. The perfect scale in the perfect location. Support this with smaller-scale infill (2/4 units) in the...

    Candian Manor | 18m | 4s | Verona Developments | Dualita Architecture

It seems to have been actually thoughtfully designed to be architecturally interesting in its shape and selection of materials. Most buildings seem to try to accomplish this by adding as many different materials as possible and calling it a day.

    General Infill Discussion

Most people I talk to about this stuff aren't anti-density - it's understood that this is part of the deal if you live in a central neighbourhood. In fact, the amenities that come with that density are why many of us choose to live in these neighbourhoods. I think your approach is the better...

    Suburban Development and Sprawl

While there are a number of services like roads that would be used by people from the surrounding communities if the development moved out there, there are also lots of services that Edmonton wouldn't be required to provide to these areas. Transit service, emergency services, utilities, etc...

    General Food & Dining Thread

I'm not very surprised honestly. It's a great concept, but being located in Sherwood Park (or any of the communities surrounding the city) is the wrong location for this in my opinion. Having grown up in Sherwood Park, it's a different kind of wealthy people than Glenora or the other wealthy...

ETS Bus and General Transit Improvements

This is true if you're commuting downtown daily or if you can avoid owning a car by relying on transit. It falls apart a bit if you're going anytime off-peak, weekends, etc. Given that I already own a car, it's way cheaper to drive downtown and pay the couple of dollars to park than to pay $3.50...

Valley Line LRT | TransEd/Marigold | City of Edmonton

I live in Bonnie Doon, and have gone through a couple of stages with the Valley Line. At first I loved having it so close to my house, and was really excited for a quick way to get Downtown right on my doorstep. It's part of why I chose to move to Bonnie Doon in the first place. Then I...

    Roads to Avoid

If you have to take this road and it's available, the middle lane is in way better condition than the outside lanes!

    General Infill Discussion

Agreed. Feels like we're repeating the past a bit here. Tear down the character buildings for modern ones, let them age 30 years, tear down for the next shiny thing. I'm all for density, but there are a couple of beautiful areas we could have at the very least some strict design standards for...

Valley Line LRT | TransEd/Marigold | City of Edmonton

I really like the idea of "first 5 rides free". I brought my parents (who are solidly car people) for a ride on the Valley Line on Saturday, and my Dad decided to take it to meet up with a friend Downtown today instead of driving because he enjoyed the experience. It's so much easier to convert...

Valley Line LRT | TransEd/Marigold | City of Edmonton

For me this is the biggest sticking point. I own a car, and my drive downtown from Bonnie Doon is 8-10 mins. Taking the Valley Line is around 20-25 mins when including walking to the closest station. I like taking the train, and when you factor in parking time, I think this trade-off would be...

    Parking, Parking, Parking

I'm all for the elimination of parking/cars in vibrant urban areas. Downtown on a Sunday is, unfortunately, not one... Make it as easy as possible for people to come downtown, whether by bus, train, bike or even car, and consider eliminating when we get some life back into the city!
