^brutal As well, Stantec cancels ICE contracts in the US. As an aside, look at the caption for the Stantec office pic - who is running that media popsicle stand? https://edmontonjournal.com/business/edmonton-based-stantec-cancels-ice-facility-contract-after-backlash

The Edmonton Method - Snow Removal

This morning. Like the promenade on the north side of river, this is meant to be one of the city's signature walks and best views on the south along Sask Drive. It needs to be clear and safe - but again, snow pushed off the road and stored along shared use path ends up causing havoc for people...

The Edmonton Method - Snow Removal

That's so bad. Getting around neighbourhoods as a pedestrian is really difficult. As the snow gets cleared off the road, drains get fully covered or iced over and it results in terrible conditions for active transportation on sidewalks and some shared use paths.

But full length windows on the doors versus the older models which are very tiny. That will bring in a lot of light and provide an open feel.

Plus, haven't some our recently built towers sold, including those in Ice District? Not sure if developers are getting a return from these sales or not, though. But the fact properties are being sold with possibly a return (maybe?) boosts confidence in building towers in Edmonton.

    Student Housing Accelerator

I should also say, for those student housing project proposals that were not successful receiving some of the $15M HAF fund because it was outside the city's preferred building zone for example, the city is directing those builders to apply for the upcoming attainable housing fund from the...

    Student Housing Accelerator

The Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF) is all federal money we received: $175 million initially and then another $17million for a total of $192M. $15M of that money is for student housing in downtown specifically. In total, the entire fund of $192M is supporting the build of about 5,700 units...

I'm not sure how many 311 operators the city has, as an example, but I wonder what the productivity benefit would be to have a position like this in the office versus WFH. These types of positions are usually monitored in terms of volume of calls they take in, how much time per call etc. I don't...

    Edmonton Oilers

Warning - negative post. I'm the biggest Oilers fan, but I just don't like the makeup of this edition of the team. With this loss to the Leafs, Oilers record against Eastern Conference is 12-13-3. Oilers are really fortunate Western conference is weaker or we'd be like Florida this year and in...

From a quick online search - a recent cbc story. "The hybrid work agreement isn’t enshrined in the collective agreements for city staff, but Bryce Jowett, president of CSU 52, said ending hybrid work would go against the spirit of what was agreed to at the bargaining table."

Oh, so if wfh is not something negotiated in workers new contract, then I guess the city could require people come in 5 days a week.

Does Knack have the ability to unilaterally change the current workers contract, or as mayor is he required to honour what has been signed and agreed to previously? I'm not fully aware of all the powers of mayor. Since the province controls the city, or wants to, can they step in and require 5...

    Student Housing Accelerator

Update: The student housing funding is fully allocated. The city has allocated the funding to 5 projects, with 4 projects under agreements to date. It will release info about all 5 projects when last contract is signed but some developers may start to release on their own perhaps. Building...
