I find this viewpoint somewhat puzzling. This isn't some Sherwood Park motel. A true downtown hotel would not need significant parking. You wouldn't be serving people who've driven in from Prince George. You'd be serving the type of guest that's flown into town.

If I was faced with having to relocate to Alberta, it would only be Calgary. As one raised in Edmonton, I don't like saying that but it's the honest truth, and for many of the reasons expressed recently in this thread.
