When I first started lurking in this forum so many years ago, I wanted high rises everywhere downtown.
Now? I want complete streets and vacant lot elimination more than anything else.
Vibrant city cores don't need skyscrapers everywhere, and I'm more than fine with subsidies kickstarting as...
Would this be a wood frame build? Or something similar to Mercury Block where it's concrete?
Gotta agree with you though that for $8 million, I would prefer something glossier. Unless that subsidy allows Autograph to go ahead with another downtown project that they have in mind (which could...
I'd count West Block if Valley Line West was completed :(
There's also more opportunities in the West End too tbh. South of Avonmore, it becomes a bit more difficult just based on Millwoods' layout. Not impossible, but just harder,
Strathearn might be the first non-downtown neighbourhood in the city where we see the big changes that the Valley Line, infill development due to the zoning changes and TOD brings when combined together.
It's actually a cool case study to see grow organically.
I doubt it. Truth be told, I'd be fine with good quality mid-rises,
None so far since this is pretty early, and it's only a recommendation yet to council
Attainable Housing Incentive recommendation passed in Executive Committee. I don't think it's going to face any problems in Council, so guessing this means we're getting cranes in the sky soon enough.
Maybe the quality of the material will make it shinier. I do like the plain "fake limestone" colour that the 2nd render gives off, but constance_chlore is right, where's the brick :(
The retail is a great W though. If you want an area of downtown to start having boutique retail like Mercury and...
I'm not opposed to it, but I was expecting a bit more architectural oomph to this.
The second render almost had me thinking it was a fake limestone material as cladding lol
Some interesting data from the ETS presentation to Council later this week. Still find it cool that with the switch to Arc pay to go; Edmonton has one of the lowest fares now among the Big Six.
Yeah I'd love more towers, but filling up empty lots with practically anything better should be the priority.
Vibrant downtowns and city centres don't always need to be filled with high rises.
