    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

As for HSR affecting YEG. It probably won't have much of an effect. Those who go YEG->YYC->* will keep doing so. Those who drive from YEG to YYC will keep doing so. some might take HSR to YYC, but it won't be a large amount. IMO, nothing changes for YEG. As for HSR to YYC-Banff, I agree with...

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

It's simply the way the cookie has crumbled. Calgary was always going to be the hub for Alberta and has been since the new airport was built in 1975, with or without WS WS is probably the reason for YYC being the main hub for the prairies and the interior of BC. They executed a long range plan...

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

Not to nitpick, but the math isn't quite right. An increase of 30k to 60k is a 100% increase, but the chart says 61.1%. Where are the numbers and percentages coming from?

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

I don't see it as defeatist, it's only being realistic. A team can always come back from a 3-0 deficit because they are in the game and can control their destiny. The issue here is that YEG's destiny is controlled by externally factors. Essentially AC and WS and the business feasibility of their...

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

Yes that's correct. The Alberta government bought the controlling share and they moved their head office to Calgary. It's not the only thing that made Calgary the hub though. They already had more international tourists due to geography, and it would have been the hub either way. I see so many...

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

I would say that Edmonton does a pretty good job of promoting tourism. I always see ads for festivals in Edmonton, and clearly Edmonton has a good system of attracting festival goers from around the province. I find Calgary doesn't push tourism for 'Calgary' itself, but instead piggybacks off...

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

Exactly. The combo of YYC as Westjet's hub, and AUH as Etihad's hub, means someone going from YEG to BLR will now have an alternate and likely better route than AC via VYR DEL BLR. There will be a tourist boost for Banff as people in that region can now do a one hop trip to Banff. It's possible...

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

I have read through all of the recent posts and wanted to weigh in on the discussion. I see a lot of the blame for YEG's decline relative to YYC being pointed at Westjet, and while they are partly to blame, it goes further than that. When I lived in Edmonton my dad was a regular flyer due to...

    ATB Place - Redevelopment

Agreed. My dad used to work in the Telus building back in the day when it was AGT. The building was full of Telus, and I think the smaller one next to it also had Telus people, plus employees in some other buildings around the city. Edtel of course had their building and there was also Shaw...
