Janice nailed it. I love how Raj was just like why the fuck is it parking when you’re beside an LRT lol. Props to Olivia for expertly avoiding saying it’s a raised platform to keep people separated from the meth zombies. Neal bringing up good points and stressing there should be more ā€œtemporarynessā€ to it... why is future use barely mentioned… I don’t think (or at least I hope) a developer wouldn’t bother going through all this to keep this site for 7 years like the one guy mentioned as a worst case scenario. Because if this weird fancy parking lot is seen as a long term venture, then just step back and let someone else with intention to develop it step up. With the quick timeline mentioned repeatedly as a reason for the half assed design, it sounds like there’s other potential interest…

I want to be best friends with almost everyone in the design committee šŸ˜ šŸ˜‚

After watching the video there are some more points that I need to add.
Instead of getting revenue from parking cars, move towards ebike/scooter parking. I believe there is no dedicated parking spot in downtown for such vehicles and it would encourage more people to get to downtown using that form of transportation. Video screens partnered with a news network for advertising revenue. The screens could also show movies etc. Mini-golf can also attract people, and generate revenue. It would bring back memories of the mini-golf ECC used to have nearby.

Remove 100% of the parking and add 1000% more stalls/cans/vendors whatever. That will bring vibrancy and foot traffic.
See Portland's Midtown Beer Garden. I remember going there when it was just stalls street facing.

There's literally a billion dollar LRT and station in front of this property. A parking lot is imo, offensive.
I hate to believe people would park at this site to use the train (or whatever) and would rather believe that people would take the train to go here, a potential vendor dense space to hangout.
The rice howard way entertainment district is also right there. Parking, really?! Maaaaan.

Oh my gosh, that reminds me of the little food shacks in Ottawa's Byward Market. They were so popular! If Westrich put some of these in with seating and landscaping as a temporary use, I think it'd be a great boost for the area.

The Bikes parking, minigolf, good shacks are great ideas, but, you are forgetting something, this is one of the worst spots for drugs consumption in the city, and there is very little the city can do to fix that and even less Westrich. This is a no-go zone for a big percentage of people.

Sadly, no hopes for improvements on that.

Not with this mindset.
What was this spot supposed to attract? It's a literal torn down building left as a desolate lot. It's not going to draw a rave.

That being said, between city center needing a teardown, and the concentration of what we actually have downtown, this is a pretty good spot to have that bike parking, mini golf and food shacks, whatever this could be due to the potentials of foot traffic.

Changing the landscape will change the attitude of this area šŸ’Æ, especially being adjacent to both lrt and 'entertainment district' with a lot of festivals at both Churchill and Ice district.
Not that it was insinuated, but drug consumption is an issue in not just the city but rural towns too, it will move to a different spot.

To add, generally speaking. This proposal works actively against the idea of pedestrianizing 102nd ave and reinforces car brained thinking. Blick 🤢

I wouldn’t say that it’s a no go zone for most people? It’s right by one of the busiest bus stops in downtown too on 101 St.

It's also across 101 St from the National Bank tower and the Valley Line LRT station, is across 102 Ave from ECC, and is next to Rice Howard Way.

This whole thing reminds me a little of the Baccarat casino land before it became the fan park. Remember, the plan was originally for a "temporary" parking lot. I hope this gets turned down, too, and Westrich goes back to the drawing board.

@IanO please at least place some of these on the site:

They are already operating here, there are some at Telus world of science.

I think this would do well in this spot, there is definitely a need for secure bike parking downtown.
