Yes this is going to be a iconic building. And when it opens in Jan you have to see it in person. As I pointed out, Cycling is only one part of this. Adding it to the Hemingway pool was also smart. Another Iconic building in Edmonton.

Did you learn more about the pool's length, and whether it was modified at all to be compliant with the competition regs? I recall folks on here talking about the pads on the end messing with that?
 
All I heard was rumors. But it sounded like there was a bit of space created. From what I can remember there was not a lot of deck space to use and still be compliant for racing. I will talk with one of the TRI people on the weekend and see what they know. As it is, If you would like to try out track riding they are doing courses from beginner to elite. Check out the Alberta Velodrome. They will supply the bike as well. Why buy when you can rent. They even accommodate flats.

Its also nice that it ties in with a spectacular older building. I just wish that Cardinals original vision to the Space Science centre was realized. But again In January when the facility opens to the public, go have a look. Photos, videos and comments do not do it Justus.

Got to spend another 3 hours on the track this weekend. And was able to look at more of the facility.
Overall its very open. Large open spaces throughout. Quite a few offices. And looks like they covered all the requirements For the UCI and ITU / World Triathalon spaces. There is even a space for in completion drug testing. Washrooms are all gender neutral. The facility is set up for broadcasting event, same set up as Rogers. A truck can back in and plug into the facility systems. The facility is also very wheelchair accessible. It will be nice to see how it integrates with the Hemingway pool. Everyone I talked with have said the renderings do not do it justice.
Good news as well for certification with UCI they were aiming for Level 2 (Which would allow them to National competitions but they may have achieved Level 1. Which means they could do World Cup level races0. Its up to the UCI now to decide. UCI is Union Cycliste Internationale.

Hmm, it was my understanding it was designed with intent for world cup events from the beginning.

Also, as reminder, Edmonton will host the 2026 Canadian Track Championships for U17 and Junior athletes from March 27–29, 2026.
 
Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre opens to public in January 2026
November 25, 2025

The City of Edmonton is excited to open Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre in January 2026. This large recreation centre will be a community and social hub for central-north Edmonton, serving the recreational needs of the community. Its partnership with the Alberta Velodrome Association (AVA) and World Triathlon Series Edmonton will create opportunities for year-round triathlon and cycling training and events.

Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre will open ahead of schedule on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, with a grand opening celebration to follow on the weekend (date and time to be determined). The facility integrates the newly rehabilitated Peter Hemingway Aquatic Centre with the velodrome, managed by the Alberta Velodrome Association, which opened mid-October 2025 for their programming.

Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre will include the following amenities:
  • Fitness centres
  • Training studio
  • Walking/running track with 333-metre outer lane
  • 250-metre Category A indoor cycling track
  • Velodrome spectator seating for up to 940 people, including 264 permanent seats
  • Peter Hemingway Aquatic Centre, including 50-metre pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room and newly added cold plunge pool
  • Bouldering wall
  • Multi-purpose courts
  • Unique “urban court”
  • Dedicated spin studio
  • Multi-purpose rooms and studios
  • Indoor playground
  • Child minding space
  • Canadian Sport Institute office
  • Second Cup food vendor
"We can’t wait to open our newest recreation centre in the city,” said Brad Badger, Director, Physical Activity and Sports Centres. “The experiences that this facility offers will draw in people from the local north central area, across the city, the province and beyond. This facility demonstrates that Edmonton is a premier fitness and training destination for the community, triathletes and cyclists.”

With the integration of Peter Hemingway Aquatic Centre, Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre becomes the first indoor triathlon training facility in North America to support year-round training and events with a pool, running and cycling track all in one location, showcasing Edmonton’s commitment to sports excellence.

The project design was completed in 2021 and construction started in spring 2022. Construction remains under budget and ahead of schedule. More information regarding January’s opening will be available closer to the date.

From November 25 to December 2, Edmontonians can take advantage of the Recreation Centres’ Black Friday promotion. Memberships and passes purchased during this period will be valid at Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre when the facility opens to the public, excluding expired products such as a single monthly pass.
