SPR is in a rough state but it has the bones to be a nice urban commercial street front. When the LRT is complete in a few years time I think this area will really take off. Optimistically in 15 years time it will be as vibrant as 124 st currently is.

Saw some of the new streetscaping for the Warehouse Area portion. I think they got it done early so as to not impact Shop Chop (107 St south of 103 Ave) any longer. Will take a photo when by next.

Marigold really wasn’t joking when they said they were aiming to have most, if not all roadworks done by the end of this construction season.

SPR was doing very well until COVID (and then LRT). I remain hopeful but I have a bad feeling that social disorder + all the lost buildings tearing up the street fabric + high construction costs are all going to make some ugly economics for the area going forward to rebuild.

Also, the Spady’s detox centre they’re supposed to be opening up at 157th and SPR probably really won’t help things. I get they have to be built somewhere and I’m glad it is being built (assuming it still is?), just in the realm of this discussion it’s likely another hurdle in SPR’s path to success.

At least SPR will have two stations within walking distance of the LRT. Housing would help the vibrancy of the area.

Not really any new info sadly, but there's some new pictures at least.

104 Ave, looking east:

Asphalt removal and piling at 104 Avenue and 120 Street.

MIP crews prepare to construct the south side of the roadway and the track slab at 104 Avenue and 111 Street.

Sidewalk concrete pours ongoing in north portion, and track slab subgrade prep started in south portion of Stony Plain Road at 124 Street.

The overhead catenary system pole bases and duct banks are installed along the curve in the tracks on Stony Plain Road at 156 Street.

Gravel base placement and compaction ongoing in north portion and track slab subgrade prep started on Stony Plain Road at 156 Street.

Sidewalk and roadway removals on 87 Avenue at Meadowlark Road.

Removals continue and piling rig mobilized on 87 Avenue at Meadowlark Road
