I'm surprised that no one has talked about this yet.... MASSIVE development ($1b plus and they are looking to build everything at once). I've seen some massing pics and this is big; towers and everything.

“Without the Canada Infrastructure Bank , what would have happened is they would have staged it in multiple stages, and it would have been much slower to build out all the land and to meet the growth in demands of the region. So this loan enables them to design and construct under one massive phase, so they can move forward for the full project at one time, rather than phasing it out over a longer period of time and more years,” she said.
The investment is expected to create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs for the Indigenous community west of Edmonton, encompassing an elders facility, cultural centre and medical centre, and spurring more than $1 billion in commercial and residential development

Towers? We know they are building a NEW hotel tower as we speak. What other towers would they need I wonder? Nope, I saw the article, just didn't know we had a thread already on the go....

It will make sense to extend the Valley Line to this, and I can't imagine it would cost a ton as it's not far from the current terminus

I'm sorry but unless there's a spur line along Winterburn Rd to the Enoch Cree resort, I would rather the LRT be extended to the u/c Lewis Farms rec centre.

I'm not sure there's space to bring the LRT any closer to the Lewis Farms Rec Center than a stop on Winterburn Road. On the other hand, there's a lot of space left beside Winterburn Rd for road widening that could be used for an LRT alignment heading south to Enoch

I could see the LRT extension going along Webber Greens Drive NW that turns into 92 Avenue NW and thereby accesses the Lewis Farms Rec Centre just west of Rosenthal Way. From that point the line could continue westward to Secord Blvd. then at that point bending south for about 250 meters and angling back to Winterburn Road; at Winterburn Road it could then cross Whitemud Drive and end up at the River Cree Resort thereby achieving both aims.

The planning of this whole area is such a failure by the city. Any solutions, like this, will now be complicated and convoluted.

Will the new event centre here not directly compete with the new event centre downtown? I imagine both will be trying to attract similar-sized events/artists.

I like the idea but they'd likely have to take another route. Doubt they could run the LRT along the length of the pipeline ROW considering all the utilities required.
