I remember reading in one of the transforming Edmonton posts that casting rail in the bed allows for more control and precise track placement, so this seems to be a good thingWell that's interesting. They're doing embedded track with the rail in place when they pour the concrete, as opposed to the method used on the VLSE where they poured the concrete, left a trough, and then installed the rail in the trough, securing it in place with an elastomeric grout. That explains the earlier image of the short section of complete track with the rail and flangeway fillers hanging out of it.
My non-professional opinion is the same. You have the rails gauged before the concrete is even poured. I strongly believe that TransEd had to bring in that milling machine because the rail wasn't quite properly gauged at locations on the SE line.I remember reading in one of the transforming Edmonton posts that casting rail in the bed allows for more control and precise track placement, so this seems to be a good thing

I hope that also means the new paving on 104 ave/stoney plain rd will open. I was out for a walk yesterday and there weren't any crews working from ~110 st all the way to ~124 st. To the contrary, the snow had really piled up there. Hopefully that means there's no work left to be done, and they're just tying up some loose ends further down the line.Expect an announcement that the SPR bridge will be opening by the first week of December.
28.6% completion. That's even slightly better than what my guess was when the summer report came out. I suspect that we are only going to see some minor increases in completion until the spring however. If we manage to make it 30-31% by the end of Q1 2025 I will be astonished. The Q3 (2024) update came out today.
I would point out that this only includes half of the major 2024 construction season. We won't know how successful construction was this summer until the Q3 report drops and it would not surprise me if there is a jump up into the 26-28% range. While there is only 2 weeks left in Q3 they are nearing completion (or have now completed) on a number of major elements such as elevated guide way installation, SPR bridge and AH bridge.
For comparison, the Q3 report I linked above says that they're at 28.6% completion now.Just for interests sake progress for Q2 2023 report was 7.9% and Q3 report was 11.5% so similar trajectory would put Q3 2024 report for 2024 at 24.4%.
