Interesting to see that the 118th Avenue underpass is sticking around, at least judging by those sketches. Am I crazy, wasn't there some talk of ditching the subway and moving the station further north? (Edit: never mind I see that it might only be an old proposal.)

Regardless, while I'm a sucker for the late '70s look of the current Coliseum Station — interestingly, one of the first major commissions of John Patkau of Patkau Architects fame — it's probably the one station on the line that's in the most dire need of a complete overhaul. The underground sections are dank and musty, and I'm sure going down there to just get up to the platform is a real hassle for anyone even slightly mobility challenged.

@_Citizen_Dane_ Correct, despite the community strongly advocating for the removal of the overpass, the current plan is to keep it, because cars.

It looks like this work by RPK was done in 2018, before there was consideration of moving the station and adding an additional one in the Exhibition Lands redevelopment area. I'm guessing that's why there's no more information on redeveloping Coliseum Station from the City right now.

As a former long-time Northlands employee and resident of Montrose I can tell you I for one DIDN'T want the LRT station moved. Just finally winterized and completely covered with a platform roof and wall system to keep out the elements... While this redesign is nice, it is moronic at the same time. Fully enclosed stations are KEY in Alberta's climate. Why? At least 6 months of the year platforms become snow and ice covered. Anything that can be done to make them more comfortable during ALL seasons improves the transit experience immensely...

This is what I wanted and needed for decades now... Guess being a working class person in Montrose doesn't count for shit in a city where hundreds of millions of dollars are wasted on studies and consultants meanwhile ACTUAL people just need a bloody roof over their train station to prevent slip and falls... SIGH! #Priorities...

Had Northlands not completely collapsed over the last few years the plan was to "Flip the Track" and rebuild a new Grandstand directly attached to the Expo Centre and the enclosed LRT corridor to make a proper all-weather tourist experience for people. At it was, nobody EVER wanted to do the 15-minute scary/icy walk across the lot from Expo Centre to the existing Grandstand including employees because of how empty and windswept and frankly scary it can be at night in -30c weather... And yes that happens WAY more often then you'd think... The plan was also to add a new hotel tower attached to both the enclosed LRT bridge to Expo Centre so that you could go the casino, the races, take in a huge convention and see a concert all connected to the LRT and downtown. It made sense at the time and it still does. If the city ever wants to really get the full use out of the existing infrastructure that's left this all-weather pedestrian link is priority #1....
