Nearly six months since our last update, cladding of the new Students' Association of MacEwan University (SAMU) building has continued apace.

Glass installation appears largely complete, creating a striking undulating wave along the upper floors of the Stantec-designed building, while the south portion of the building is now largely clad in aluminum paneling and wood accents.

Due to open its doors to students on December 2, the new building will be the new home for all Students' Association programs and services, while also providing study spaces, a large event space, and new food vendors.

The SAMU building represents the latest expansion of MacEwan University's plan for a single sustainable campus, following the opening of Allard Hall two years ago. The next phase, according to sources in our Forum, will see a new School of Business building built just north of SAMU at 105 Avenue and 109 Street, for which the University is currently accepting RFPs.

SkyriseEdmonton will continue to follow this project as it marches toward completion, as well as the future School of Business as that project progresses. More information and images can be found in our project Database. What do you think of the SAMU building so far? Leave a comment below or join the conversation in our Forum!

Editors note: A previous version of this article credited DIALOG as the architect for the SAMU building. The architect was in fact Stantec. SkyriseEdmonton regrets the error.
